A Breakfast challenge #RealMumsAllBran

 

Recently I took part in the #RealMumsAllBran 5-Day challenge.  This meant I was challenged to eat breakfast of All-Bran for 5 days in a row and see if I noticed any difference. The challenge brief says “Do you ever feel bloated and sluggish but carry on with your busy life thinking that’s just how it is?
The great news is, it doesn’t have to be. The 5 Day Challenge is designed to show you just how easy it is to feel more energised and revitalised”.
 
Now this in itself is a real challenge for me as I don’t eat breakfast – I start with all good intentions however usually by Tuesday I’m back to a glass of water or milk and a cookie, followed by a strong cup of coffee.  That IS breakfast for me.

Now I do suffer from bloating, often by evening time I look pregnant and not just a little, I look months gone some days.  I can definitely vouch that I’m NOT and it is just bloating.
 
I know my diet is to blame for this, I don’t always eat the right foods and I definitely don’t eat enough fruit and veg and I find it impossible to drink the amount of water that is suggested. 
 
To help with this challenge I was sent 3 boxes of All-Bran in various flavours:
 
We received:
  • Golden Crunch
  • Red Berry Crunch
  • Choco Wheat
These weren’t flavours I had tried before however they looked delicious and I was very keen to try.
 
 
 
I’ve recently found out that I have Familial Hypercholesterolemia, this means that I’ve hade high cholesterol since birth.  There are obvious worries and medical issues which comes from high cholesterol – heart problems is just one of them – by the time I am 40 I will have a heart attack risk of a 70 year old apparently.  Now considering I am only 34 it is very scary.  I’ve 2 small children and I want to be around for as long as I can to see them growing up.
 
I want to change my diet and to start exercising more to help combat the high levels, loosing weight will help and exercising to a level which gets my heart pumping will help lots.  I will most likely need to be on tablets for life however I am trying to see if changing thing myself help at all.  I’ve another blood test due in a week which will measure my blood cholesterol levels, I have been very good for the past 4 weeks and I really hope to see a change.
 
These cereals have actually helped – I was surprised and I didn’t think they would make any difference if I’m honest however they have.
 
The change has been that I AM EATING BREAKFAST EVERYDAY – as I said before I’ve always struggled with that however they are actually really tasty and make me want to eat them daily.  I’ve been eating them with Soy milk as I’m cutting out dairy which also means I get a whole bowl to myself as the kids don’t like my Soy milk.
 
Having the 3 flavours is nice as I can vary which I eat meaning I don’t get bored – this is also a reason I struggle with breakfasts, I find them boring and bland. 
 
The added berries in the Berry Crunch means I am also adding more fruit into my diet – that has to be a plus right?
 
 
 
I haven’t found I’m less bloated yet however I’m not picking at food during the day and my tummy definitely isn’t rumbling at 11am as it usually is and I also have more energy and don’t seem to be having my usually 4pm slump!
 
I’m now past my 5 days and I am continuing to eat these cereals for breakfast – the challenge has been a success here and I am enjoying breakfasts again, and chocolate for breakfast – well that can only be a great thing in my eyes but it’s all good as it contains Wheat Bran Fibre too!
