Emmy got her first tooth at around 9 months old, since then I have tried my hardest to keep her teeth clean and ensure that they are brushed properly twice a day, as you know this is not always easy with a toddler.
Emmy always wants to do it herself – “NO, Mummy – Emmy do it” is what I am told daily by her. Obviously I want to enforce independence however I know fully well that a 2 year old will not be able to clean their teeth properly just yet.
So what I have done is brought her a few different toothbrushes and I let her brush them herself first before I give them a brush over myself. This has been accepted now (after many mornings and nights of screaming tantrums) but perseverance won in the end!
What I have struggled with slightly is toothpaste, as after trying a few I soon discovered that Emmy really hated the mint ones, disliked the strawberry ones and is hit and miss with a few others.
Brush-Baby sent me a toddler toothpaste to try with Emmy recently and she was actually happy to use it – this did shocked me as she isn’t very keen on changing from what she likes – she chose a Peppa Pig tooth paste a while back but hated it so much she actually threw it in the bin.
Brush-Baby Baby & Toddler Toothpaste has a gentle Applemint flavour which Emmy seems to enjoy and even tries to brush her teeth on her own (but I am sure this is so I don’t have to help her).
Please excuse her cheesy grin (far right) she always does this to show me she has finished brushing.
