Children just love to share germs and colds #ad

**Advertorial feature**

Since becoming a Mother there are two main things I have had to accept:

  1. My clothes will always be covered in some substance or another, be that dribble and sick when my children were small, food where they love to wipe their hands all over my clothes or even snot where they have sneezed all over me or worse wiped their noses over the bottom on my top/jumper.
  2. Whenever the kids have a cold or a cough they will share it with me.

I know that I’m not alone here, kids just love to share…but only their messes and germs. If I ask for a bite of their cake or chocolate I am met with a death stare and they can’t move away fast enough.

In our household when the kids are poorly they only want Mummy, no-one else will do, they cling to me like glue, snuggle up on my lap and want to sleep with me too – this is the main reason that while I am typing this post I am currently wrapped up in a blanket, drinking my 4th cup of coffee (I am so glad of the keep warm button on my kettle just now) and sucking on a lozenger with no voice and desperately trying the fight the cough which has just started and franticly washing my hands in a bid to stop the germs from spreading.

The kids have struck again, they can’t manage to cover their mouths when coughing or grab a tissue when sneezing and I have caught their cold and cough they were so desperate to get rid of by passing it to me.

Kids really can be disgusting at times can’t they, I know we teach them to share and drum this into them all the time but I seriously could do without them sharing every single bug and germ with me.

I clearly remember a time when we were making a cake for their Dad’s birthday, they were both full of cold and I stupidly thought it would help cheer them up. It was already one of those days when everything was going wrong, you know the ones where you could happily go to bed at 2pm and start the day over…the supermarket trip was hell, I’d forgotten the main thing I went in for, the kids were upset as I wouldn’t buy them a toy or magazine and the whole trip ended up taking 4 times as long as it should have.

Making the cake, Harry dropped the entire box of a dozen eggs on the floor, the dog tried to help clean up by attempting to lick them off the floor, Harry ‘helped’ by spreading the mess with his feet while I search for a mop and some Dettol Surface Cleanser Spray. After another trip to the local shop, and mixing the batter – kids fighting over who’s turn it was to stir and me stopping them from licking the spoon while mixing as they both were poorly and of course they already had their hands all over the spoons and bowls spreading germs around as kids so happily and easily do, then someone then sneezed into the entire bowl.

Of course I threw it all away, cleaned the surfaces down with some Dettol Antibacterial surface wipes, washed up all the equipment and started again this time without the kids help. There was no way I was about to head out to the shops yet again and I even set the timer so I didn’t burn the cake!

After all that effort – no-one was feeling well enough to eat the cake anyway and it reinforced my loathing of baking cakes – it’s supermarket ones all the way from now on.

Do you have any stories of when your kids have been gross spreading their germs so kindly with others? Check out this thread from Mumsnet and you’ll see you’re not alone!

Thanks to Dettol, I no longer have to accept I’m going to inevitably become ill. I always use Dettol products in my kitchen (and bathrooms) because they help to prevent the spread of cold, flu. by killing up to 99.9% of germs and I need all the help I can get with 2 kids who spread their germs so willingly. Children are the main carriers of cold and flu viruses, catching and spreading their germs so easily within the school environment and then bringing them home and spreading to family members.

Did you know that for every 10 children who miss school due to flu-related illnesses a further 8 family members go on to become infected?

Last winter, there was a 61% increase in reported cases of cold and flu compared to previous year and with the cold spell upon us it is key we try to eliminate these germs before they spread. Emmy and Harry have just had their flu sprays in school along with most of their friends and I am stocking up on my Dettol products to clean the house with, as cold viruses can stay on hard surfaces for up to 7 days, with flu viruses surviving for up to 24 hours – I clean the work surfaces with them, spray them around the room and even wipe the door handles and toilet handles with the wipes in a bid to kill off the germs. My go to products are Dettol Surface Cleanser Spray, Dettol Antibacterial Surface Wipes, Dettol All-in-One Disinfectant Spray, and Dettol Antibacterial Hand Hygiene Gel.
