I find searching for gifts for adults the hardest of all the presents to buy at Christmas, lets face it, as adults if we want something then we just head out and buy it for ourselves – and if it isn’t ‘needed’ it could end up being something else to clutter up the house and I hate adding to someone else’s clutter pile or gifting something which will just collect dust and be re-gifted next year.
It’s for this reason I prefer to gift useable items, edible ones or useful ones so they won’t go into that Nania cupboard we all seem to have somewhere in the house.
Gifts on my Wishlist this Christmas
I don’t usually make a list of things I would like, however it is my 40th Birthday on 21st December and I have decided that unless I drop some not so subtle hints I will be left empty-handed, and I’m not allowing that for a special birthday.
So, a few things I am after are: Apple watch bands, a new Kindle Paperwhite – the waterproof one please, Gin – My collection is emptying rather quickly, a night away for just myself, new PJ’s, Theatre tickets, new make-up, cinema tickets and a nice meal out.
A girl can hope can’t she?
Here are a few of my favourite items for adults this year:
Red Letter Day Vouchers or experiences
These are loved by everyone, whether you give a gift voucher so the recipient can choose their own experience day/hotel stay or even a nice meal out – the possibilities are endless with these vouchers. You can choose the experience for your gift or you can buy a Red Letter day gift voucher starting from £50 so they can choose what they want to use it on for themselves.
They really do have something for all budgets too – from a meal for two at your local pizza restaurant, helicopter rides, a holiday, night away or my favourite ‘A Spa day’.
I will have a review of this experience day after new year, a very good friend and I are heading off on this Spa Day experience as a gift to ourselves for our 40th Birthdays. Her 40 was in November and mine is in December. This is a luxury spa day with 3 treatments and lunch for two people at Riverhills.
Men’s Tactical Christmas Stocking Kits
These are a lovely alternative to traditional stockings and more useful too.
As this is for over 16’s it doesn’t fit into my guide for children but this is a great game you can all play together (the older ones in the family that is) after dinner around the table.
Anything which encourages families and friends to sit together and play without technology gets my vote every time, and the older children get the harder that becomes.
This is a fun game for 3-5 players. There are 3 rooms within this game which you can choose to escape from.
In this challenging and unpredictable game, you have to work together to solve puzzles and find hidden clues. It’s always a race against the clock; you only have 60 minutes to escape. The Chrono Decoder counts down from 60 to 0 minutes; it helps create the atmosphere and allows you to take hints.
In this game, you win together or lose together. Each player must excel and do their part. Teamwork is the key to solving all the riddles and puzzles in time.
The plaque features the wording “Heritage Plaque” across the top, but the rest of the wording is entirely up to you! You have space for 7 lines of text, including the recipient’s name. You don’t have to include their date of birth (they might not necessarily thank you for it!), but you can have fun creating text that has just the right combination of formality and sheer daftness!
The plaque measuring approximately 20cm (8″) in diameter, your plaque is light enough to be fixed to the wall with adhesives. Alternatively, you can easily drill small holes so that it can be mounted with screws (just attach a little masking tape before drilling the holes). If you want to display your plaque indoors (and keep your light under a bushel), it is light enough to be attached to the wall with sticky pads or blue sticky tack.

The Block Hello Coat Rack is a fun way to hang up your things at the end of the day! This yellow wire coat rack is wonderfully inspired by neon signs and designed to emulate cursive handwriting. Each letter works as handy hook for bags, hats, coats and scarves and spells the word “hello” – an ideal welcoming message for any entryway!
This stylish coat rack is made from powder-coated steel and comes complete with wall mounts. The rack is projected from the wall by the mounts, which creates a lovely shadow of the word behind it on the wall, adding dimension and a little extra attractiveness to your hallway.
This designer coat rack is also available in grey and white colours.
These are candles with a difference – as the candles burn down and the wax melts away it reveals an aluminium skeleton of a dragon. These have a burning time of around 20 hours and are made of Paraffin wax.
As well as dragons there are also other animals available including:
- and a few others
These make lovely gifts as once the candle has long gone you have the skeleton as a keepsake.
Rhubarb, commonly used to cure ailments in Tudor times, has since become a British favourite. We press the fruit to extract the Rhubarb juice and blend it with our award-winning Stratford Gin to produce a deliciously sweet and tangy gin. Rhubarb gin is delicious served with lime and Ginger Ale, or alternatively try with Aromatic Tonic.
The Shakespeare Distillery is based in Stratford upon Avon, so the essence of the Tudor period in which Shakespeare lived is brought into their spirits by using Tudor garden-inspired botanicals.
This Rhubard Gin is available from Yumbles.com for £33 – you can find loads of gifts for gin lovers at Yumbles
With plastic straws finally disappearing from our stores and restaurants, paper ones are replacing them – and if you are anything like me you hate those with a passion.
Have you ever tried drinking a thick milkshake with a paper straw – it’s near on impossible.
While glass straws may not be practical to carry around in your bag they make the perfect accessory for your home.
VASO’s range of premium glass straws offers consumers a reusable, sustainable and recyclable product that delivers a 100% pure taste as they are free from plastics, toxins, mineral oils and BPA. The straws are also easy to clean, simply wash them with your glassware in the sink or pop them in your dishwasher.
This could be a stocking filler item, not something I would have gifted when I was younger but as I head closer to 40 I finally realise just how important a good skincare routine is every day.
Olay Total Effects Whip SPF 30 for healthier-looking skin. It replenishes nourishing moisture, evens skin tone, enhances brightness, visibly smooths fine lines, while minimizing the look of pores, restoring firmness, visibly reducing dark spots, – while helping to protect with SPF 30. It’s the perfect primer for make-up, thanks to its light-as-air finish.
