Cooking with Mummy

Emmy loves to help with the cooking and I find that if she ‘makes dinner herself’ she eats more, so I have always let her help me from a very young age. Now she knows exactly what to do when I chop up the veggies for her, and she is a fantastic ‘Little Cook’.

This week she made Pork and Apple Casserole for dinner.

Ingredients: (Serves 4 – we froze some for Emmy to eat another day)

4 Pork chops
3 Carrots
1 Onion
1 leek
2 Apples
5 ml Apple Juice
1 Pint of Vegetable Stock

Now I have to say I have never been one to follow a receipe, I may do the first time I make something however it far easier not to rely on exact measures, quantities and play it by eye and use whatever I have in my fridge, if I have something that needs using up then I add it, and my Best friend is my slow cooker – everything goes into it!! I am after all a busy Mummy so have little time to cook, so if you want to know exactly how long things take to cook and like to follow every written word its best you stop reading now as I have No idea.

(I don’t profess or claim to be a good cook however my family enjoy my cooking and Emmy loves helping so that is good enough for me.)

I washed all the vegetables with Emmy’s help, gave her a wooden spoon, a toy tea cup and the pan for the slow cooker and while I chopped up the veg she had a whale of a time.

The great thing about the slow cooker is everything is thrown into it and just left so Emmy actually did make the entire dinner herself! In went all of the above ingredients, I turned the Slow cooker onto medium heat and left it for 5 hours, served with mash and ate.  Meaning Emmy and I could go off to the park for the day.  She loves cooking with Mummy.
