They say it takes 3 days and 3 nights to break a habit, well we have now done 6 days and 5 nights and not once have I shared my bed with a smallish person. She is allowed to come for a cuddle after 6am and once this week she did this and went back to sleep until 7.30am but she is now no longer constantly asking for my bed in the evenings and if she does wake she either re-settles or calls for me but has stopped asking for “Mummies bed”.
I’m one happy mummy.
Night 5 – during the day we had been to visit a friend of mine Liz (The Hart of the Munchkin Patch) and her 2 year old Daughter Lily-Sue. Emmy had woken at 5.30am that morning so by the time we left my house to jump on the motorway Emmy was asleep having 25 minutes in the car. This however proved not to be a problem as after playing with ALL of Lily-Sue’s toys we walked to their local park. This was a long walk for Emmy, although for her friend it wasn’t a problem, Emmy managed to get tired walking there but made up for it playing constantly on the slides, swings and roundabout.
After leaving the park we popped the tired girls into their pushchairs and walked back to the house before Emmy and I headed home, once again she slept for 25 minutes in the car, which is unheard of – 2 naps in 1 day!!
However the miracle happened that evening – not only did Emmy wake but she didn’t cry for me, she got out of bed, grabbed herself another pillow and her nightlight and went back to bed and straight to sleep. I only knew she had done this when I went in to check on her before going to bed my self. This is how I found her: (yes I’m a mean Mummy – flash on the camera to grab a pic)
She then proceeded to SLEEP THE WHOLE NIGHT THROUGH!!!! Miracles do happen after all. Thank you Lily-Sue for wearing out Emmy.
Night 6 – Today has been a VERY exciting day for Emmy. It was the Jubilee Party at her new Pre-School and we were kindly invited along, she doesn’t start for 2 weeks yet and will be going every Monday morning with her best friend Eliza, I look after Eliza and her sister on a Monday. Emmy chose her outfit herself this morning, she has already said she wanted her new ‘dancing skirt’ (Red, White and Blue tutu) so I gave her a choice of Red or White top, she went with Red and proudly dressed herself, not allowing Mummy to help at all. She also demanded Daddy to “Wake up Dad-dad it’s time for school” rather loudly and early this morning as she was so excited (we took Daddy along to see Emmy’s new school).
Arriving at the Pre-School for 11am so did her usual trick of pretending to be shy and silly but it only lasted a few minutes until she saw Eliza and was promptly playing on the slide with her. She even had to sit with Eliza while we all sang God Save the Queen and they held hands too – it was so cute to watch. The girls sat together to have a party tea and Emmy followed her friend where-ever she went, including the toilet.
I don’t think Emmy will have any problems at all going off to Pre-School as she had a wonderful day and has talked about it none stop.
Tonight she was so tired after her party and a trip to Hatfield Galleria that she was fast asleep by 6.50pm, she has woken once but only so Mummy could put her into bed – she had pulled out the spare mattress which is kept under her bed and set up camp there tonight. I’m hopeful that we have now cracked this sleeping again but most importantly I have achieved what I set out to do which it reclaim my bed again.
Phew, for those of you who said you were also struggling on my first post, do keep at it. It is worth all the hard work you put into it but you do have to keep at it and be strong. Good luck and let me know how you are getting on.
Wishing you all a good nights sleep.
P.S. We didn’t win the Sainsbury’s best blog award, however to make the final 10 was amazing so Thank You. Now the iPad 3 has gone back on my shopping list for items I wish I owed and may do if I win the lottery!
