I’ve mentioned before that we purchased our house from Paul’s parents, their house sale fell through and as a bridge, Paul took on the mortgage for our house with the notion to selling it straight away….well considering I am living here you’ve guessed that didn’t happen! We didn’t manage to sell it and then got engaged so just moved it with the plan to move.
Fast forward almost 15 years and 2 children, numerous pets which have now all long passed and we are still here, although have recently been house hunting in Cornwall – that is a plan for a few years time.
The house is perfect for us – a 4 bedroom house with a lovely sized garden, a HUGE kitchen and HUGE front room/playroom.
While the kid’s rooms have been decorated a good few times, Emmy has her big girls bedroom and recently had even more changes which I’ve not yet blogged about, including a double bed and moving her room around again to give her more play space. Harry loves his Super Hero bedroom although after a leak in the loft we do need to repaint his ceiling.
The front room and kitchen have been done, although do need redoing again now, and we’ve even begun planning a spare room revamp turning it into an office space for myself. Sadly our bedroom is VERY neglected and has never been decorated and I want to change that this year.
Last year I purchased an Ottoman Bed and it was the best investment I have made in a long time – it has given me a space to store all the bedding, the suitcases which were in a corner of my bedroom and also a great place to hide away the birthday and Christmas presents (it’s too heavy for the kids to lift up so I know they won’t go searching for a few years yet).
We are in desperate need of changing the carpet in our room – it’s a horrid red and I just hate it as no bedding, curtains etc match with it unless I go for plain colours or red and red is my least favourite colour. I would love to rip it up and rediscover the floorboards but it could be a bit cold so I am now thinking a grey colour would work well.
I am also thinking that I would like to include a feature wall behind the bed and am looking at brick tiles currently for a different look.
The other walls I would paint in a cream/magnolia colour and the red coving we currently have I plan to paint a teal colour
We do need new bedside tables as I had to rip my fitted unit out to make room for our new bed (yes I forgot to measure to ensure it would fit) and bedside lamps are needed – these I plan to get with teal or yellow coloured shades and matching curtains.
Thankfully our fitted wardrobes are still in great condition so we would leave those but I have been thinking of giving them a lick of paint to freshen them up.
I have a beautiful Butterfly bedding set already which would fit perfectly into this colour scheme – and *may* have been the inspiration for the colour scheme I have chosen – yes I am mad enough to plan a whole room make-over around the colour scheme of my favourite bedding.
Hopefully, this is the year I get my bedroom sorted and create a peaceful haven where I actually want to spend time.
