Excercise after Breast Surgery

As you know Breast Cancer is close to my heart at the moment, I will not mention names as I don’t feel that is right however it is something as a family we are focused on and would like to raise awareness of.

On the 8th August the BBC ran a story which states that “All patients getting cancer treatment should be told to do two and a half hours of physical excercise every week.” – this is based on a report by Macmillan Cancer Support.  The charity says that advising patients to rest and take it easy is now outdated and that research shows that excercise can reduce the risk of dying from Cancer and help to minimise the side effects of treatment.  The full article can be found here.

Breast Care nurses actively try to encourage patients in their care to return to the gym and pool to boost recovery, improve general fitness and to help aid emotional healing; Chemotherapy can cause depression – this can be successfully combatted by a suitable excerise programme.

This in itself can be daunting for mastectomy patients who worry that swimwear, lingerie and sportswear will no longer fit properly or worse that their breast form will not stay in place.  Finding a stockist with a good selection of mastectomy lingerie can prove challenging.

Anita understands these concerns and has created Centres of Excellence within lingerie shops across the UK, where staff as specially trained to expertly fit lingerie, swimwear and sports breast-forms which are especially designed for swimming and sports activities; for example the breast-forms designed for swimming have built in grooves to allow the water to drain freely reducing movement and discomfort.

The specialist range is very carefully designed to help the patient feel comfortable and confident with their new figure after surgery, helping to ensure that there is no reason why women with breast-forms (prosthesis) cannot swim, horse-ride, run or exercise in the way she normally would.

The full range of mastectomy bras, Sports bras and Swimwear can be found on their website.  Here are just a few proving that Style and comfort can still be achieved.

About the Centres of Excellence:

The programme seeks toidentify retail partners which are equally concerned with providing expert care to those affected by Breast Cancer.  These carefully selected retailers are invited to attend intensive training courses at Anita’s head office in Germany and will also visit the production facilities where the breast forms, lingerie and swimwear is designed and manufactered.
Upon completion of  2 day course, the retail outfit will recieve a certificate which will show customers that the retailer is a Fully qualified Anita Care Centre of Excellence.  The course itself includes in-depth product training, how to measure, select and fit the ideal breast form and lingerie to meet individual needs, a study of breast anatomy, types of surgery and information on common complications such as scarring and Lymphoedemas.

  1. A breast surgery will provide you with larger breasts instantly. Once the medical procedure is over, you will wake up with a new pair of breasts. You won't have to wait weeks or months to see the positive results.
