Food & Drink Gift Ideas for Christmas 2020

Disclaimer: Some items featured in this post have been sent for inclusion, as always, all thought and opinions are my own

I just love this time of year for choosing food & drinks which I wouldn’t usually stock in the house. It’s a time we can go all out and indulge ourselves – and although every year we may say “I’m not going to overdo the food this year”, we all know it’s very likely to happen anyway.

Christmas traditions in my house involve me wrapping the Christmas gifts at the last minute while watching a Christmas Hallmark movie with a glass or two of Baileys. This year may be the first year I have actually wrapped all the presents before the children have broken up for school, only because the class bubbles are currently in danger of closing early when children keep having to be tested. I wanted to ensure I was organised while I still had the chance this year.

Christmas Food & Drink Ideas

This is what I have ordered for myself, a special treat for getting on top of the Christmas preparations early and to replace my usual Baileys which I treat myself to while I am wrapping the presents.

Hotel Chocolat Salted Caramel Chocolate Cream Liqueur

This will be hidden away and keep just for me and I do love both salted caramel and chocolate. Priced at £22 a bottle it’s a little more expensive than my usual Xmas tipple but after a year like this one I think I deserve a treat just for me!

The secret behind this recipe? Hotel Chocolat took their salted caramel chocolate and velvetised it with vodka and cream.

Red wine to enjoy with Christmas Dinner

I love to try new wines, it can be too easy to choose the one you like and then stick with only that one but a great way of finding something different is to venture away from the supermarket and look at featured wines in stores or a website such as Independent Wines where they specialise in finding the best wines as competitive prices, you are also able to read up on wines on the knowledge base segment of the website.

First up on my list to try over the Christmas period is Montecillo Rioja Crianza 2016 priced at £9.65 a bottle.

This authentic Rioja has received glowing reviews and has won multiple awards. It is a delicious blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha, and 5% Graciano, aged in American Oak barrels for 18 months to achieve a complex and balanced taste. Gold Medal, Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2018, Double Gold Medal at China Wine & Spirits Awards.

This lovely dry red wine would team beautifully with an after-dinner cheese platter to help relax into the evening festivities of Christmas.

Next up is a bottle which is a little more expensive at £19.90 a bottle and would be perfect with your main Christmas dinner. Ridolfi Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018 is another red wine. This wine has delicate aromas of redcurrant, red plum strawberry, raspberry, chocolate, sweet cake and dried red cherries.

Ridolfi’s Rosso di Montalcino DOC is a deliciously fresh and floral wine, produced in the same vineyard as the famous Brunello di Montalcino. While the powerful Brunello is aged for three years, Rosso is released after only one year of ageing. Fresh and zingy, it is full of vibrant flavours of red cherry and raspberry. And while Brunello is a special wine you might use to celebrate Christmas, Rosso di Montalcino is made simply for celebrating life.

If you are wanting to buy wines as a Christmas gift then Independent Wines are currently offering a free gift wrap service.
