Last year we were lucky enough to start working with HP and attended a Christmas themed event with them where we learnt all about their new products and even created our own virtual Christmas card using the HP live photo app.
After the event we were sent the HP Envy 4500 printer to review and we still use that weekly, printing off photos, invites and printables for the kids.
However as you would expect using a printer frequently can be costly, inks aren’t cheap – now while our printer tells me when I’m low on ink – via a message on my laptop – it can’t order the inks for me – or it couldn’t until now!
HP instant ink is an ink replacement service which delivers HP Original Ink to a customer’s door before they run out, and can save UK consumers up to 70% on ink costs. Designed for cost-effective convenience, Instant Ink uses smart printers to wirelessly monitor when registered households are running low on ink, and delivers a new ink cartridge to their home or business address.
By signing up for the HP Instant Ink program, customers are able to print black and white or colour documents and photos for as little as £1.99 per month, with plans based on pages printed, not amount of ink used.
A tiered pricing model is available and unused pages roll over from month to month, although they can never exceed the total pages of the current plan to which a customer is subscribed to (50, 100 or 300 pages). Users can also adjust their plan to their needs or cancel the plan at any time, meaning they will always have ink when they need it. For those ad-hoc months when a few additional pages are required, customers can also pay an additional fee of just £1 to release 15, 20 or 25 pages against the consecutive tariffs listed below.
Pricing is as follows:
• £1.99/month for Occasional Printing (50 pages per month)
• £3.49/month for Moderate Printing (100 pages per month)
• £7.99/month for Frequent Printing (300 pages per month)
The Instant ink service has been perfect for us as I am usually on of these people that when a reminder comes up I will hit ignore a good few times and then forget all about it – this has been happening with our ink too – the reminder will pop up on my laptop and I hit ignore thinking I’ll buy more ink tomorrow – that turns into the next day until it’s too late and I need to print and invitation to an event or directions off and I’m out of ink.
It happens to us all I’m sure, only this weekend a friend struggled to print something off as she was low on ink.
With this service, once registered with a HP compatible machine it measures and keeps an eye on your ink levels and will automatically order them for you and they will arrive before you have even realised your about to run out.
I received a years moderate printing package from HP to try out – this equates to being able to print up to 100 pages per month which costs £3.49 per month.
If I were to use all my 100 pages each month (and I most definitely will with the amount of colouring sheets the kids have me printing off) that totals to £42 a year to print 1200 pages with the instant ink service as opposed to £204 which is the average cost of printing the same amount of pages using OEM ink (original equipment manufacturer ink).
This package has the potential to save me £162 and of course I like the sound of that!
There are currently 5 printers which work with this ink replacement service:
HP ENVY 4500 e-AiO printer series
HP ENVY 5530 e-AiO printer series
HP Officejet 4630 e-AiO printer series
HP Officejet Pro e-AiO printer series
HP Officejet Pro 8620 e-AiO printer series
To activate this service you first need the compatible printer and then an enrolment card. You then enrol online and that’s all you need to do!
Insert a cartridge to start your service and monthly billing will follow – your ink cartridges will be mailed to you directly and the printer will tell HP when more ink is needed, this will be send BEFORE you run out.
It really is very simple and very convenient too.
It’s been perfect for my new project – a picture wall in our hallway – printing off lots of family photos requires a lot of ink.
