Planning our outdoor fun for the summer

Ever since Emmy grew her own caterpillars from eggs last year and watched them daily with amazement, growing and changing every day it has sparked her love of nature.  Just incase you missed our butterfly post you can find it here.

As a family we spend as much time as possible outdoors and she loves nothing more than digging for bugs and hunting for worms – we guest posted over on Edspire’s blog showing Emmy’s worm hunting adventures.

However being outdoors doesn’t always need to be messy or about digging and bugs – I can hear those sighs of relief – I admit bugs aren’t my favourite things either.

Now the weather is beginning to improve we plan to spend as much time outside as possible and we have a list of things we plan to do over the summer, things we can enjoy as a family and on a budget too:
  • Picnics
  • Dog Walks
  • Climbing trees in the forest
  • Planting flowers
  • Growing Strawberries
  • Fruit picking at PYO
  • A boat trip on the canal
  • A trip to the farm
  • A seaside trip including building sandcastles, ice-creams, paddling in the sea and chips on the beach
  • A visit to Butterfly World – there is a butterfly guide on South Lakeland Parks which can help to identify different butterflies
  • We are also hoping to plan a Cornwall visit to see our very good friends (Emmy’s Godmother) new baby
  • Finishing off the garden – we are almost there now after ripping out bushes and trees, it’s now just a case of tidying and sorting the mess
  • Warrior paining in the garden
  • Fishing with Grandad – Emmy loves to go fishing and this year I think Harry will also enjoy it too
  • Swimming
  • Reading challenge at our local library
With 6 weeks off over the summer it shouldn’t be hard to fit all of those in and hopefully a few more too, of course there are always movie days and cinema trips for the rainy days which I’m sure we will have too.

Do you have summer holiday plans yet?  How do you occupy your summer?
