Red Dog: The Early Years Review and Giveaway to win 5 kids DVD’s

Red Dog: The Early Years Review and Giveaway

As I have mentioned on previous occasions we have a weekly movie night in our house, this is one of our family traditions. The kids camp downstairs on mattresses and we watch a family friendly movie together. We try to make it a new movie each week but of course we all have our favourites.

Our last movie was Red Dog: The Early Years – this is a very sweet family movie about a little boy and his best friend Blue.

A truly heart warming movie which will grip all pet lovers from the start, it’s a tale of a little boy who goes to live with his Grandfather, has no friends and nothing really to do in his new home. One day while exploring he comes across a puppy covered in dirt, seemingly abandoned. He takes home, calls him Blue due to the colour of the mud/dirt he is covered in then while cleaning him discovers he is actually a Red colour – but the name Blue sticks.

They fast become best friends, sleeping, eating and doing everything together. They have that special bond which only pet owners will understand – they are in tune with each other and look out for one another.

The movie is a story told by a Father, Michael Carter (Jason Isaacs: The Harry Potter series, The OA) to his young son retelling of his childhood days where his 11 year old self (Levi Miller: Pan, TV’s Supergirl)Β  was shipped off to live with his Grandfather (Bryan Brown: Gods of Egypt, TV’s The Good Wife) cattle station in the remote Pilbara region of Western Australia. While expecting a life of dull hardship with his Grandfather he instead finds myth, adventure and a new four legged best friend who will change his life.

An easy to follow storyline filled with lots of adventures – both Emmy and Harry loved this and didn’t take their eyes from the screen, I have to admit I actually really enjoyed it too and watched with them. Harry did cry at the end of the movie however as the boy leaves to go back to live with his Mother and has to leave Blue behind – watching him cry set Harry off and he sobbed for a while he was sad to see Blue left behind.

  1. Inside Out – It also came out when we unfortunately had to move home (bad landlord who was in debt). So as a family we could all relate to it in different ways. So for us it’s one of our favorites.

  2. Rugrats go wild. I just love it :’) I’ve forced the kids to watch it regularly. We have never seen any of these movies though ! So thanks for the chance πŸ™‚

  3. We love Labyrinth its such a classic and its great I can now watch it with my daughters and see them enjoy it too
