Regular readers will already have met Barney. Barney is our 13 year old Border Collie who has been a member of our family for the past 12 and a half years.
Barney was a rescue dog who came to live with us a week before Christmas when he was found left tied to a bus stop. Skinny but otherwise healthy, he didn’t make it to the kennels and we rehomed him the same day the dog warden picked him up and he has been a loved member of this family ever since.
Barney came everywhere with us, going into work with Paul everyday, joining us for breakfast in the pub at the weekends, long walks in Epping Forest and holidaying with us in pet friendly locations.
When I was pregnant with Emmy, Barney wouldn’t leave my side – if I went to the toilet, he came too. He started sleeping next to my bed and would rest his head on my lap. He has been amazing with the children too.
Unfortunately, since the children came along finding time to spend with Barney has become less and less. He doesn’t seem to mind but I am very conscious of this especially as he is getting older and actually prefers to just sleep to play.
More Than have launched a new campaign and I have taken this opportunity to join in as a way to spend more time with Barney, something which I am keep to carry on now the children are back to school.
The Pledge to Play campaign challenges pet owners to spend an extra 15 minutes playing with their pets each day. Not only will it make your pet (and you) happy but at the same time you can help raise money for the RSPCA
Anyone can join in with this Pledge to Play and help raise money for this good cause.
If you would like to join in all you need to do is:
- Head to the More Than page and upload a picture of yourself and your pet to either Facebook or Twitter using the hashtag #PlayMore
For everyone who joins in with this campaign More Than will donate £1 to the RSPCA, this will help them to reach their £20,000 goal to build a sensory garden for rescue dogs and fund a cattery refurbishment
Barney has been loving all the extra attention
We have had extra long walks, spent afternoons grooming, he has had a bath and we’ve played with his favourite toys – balls. We have also spent a lot of time snuggled on the sofa just like he used to do as a puppy. Our Pledge to Play has been great fun and I plan to continue showing Barney the attention he should have already been getting but life got in the way.
Will you be joining in with the Pledge to Play?
