The Snowman returns to the West End for the 20th year

The Snowman

For me Christmas begins with the movies, the classics which we love and watch year after year and never tire of.

I am one of those people who would happily watch Christmas movies all year around, not someone who has their decorations up before December but there is nothing wrong with a movie snuggled up on the sofa with the kids.

A favourite of all of ours has always been The Snowman, when it airs on TV then you really know it’s almost Christmas and although we never have snow here at Christmas watching it on the screen almost makes up for it.

This year I will be surprising the children and taking them to see this live at the Peacock Theatre in London, showing from 23rd November until 31st December

As well as the dates at The Peacock, The Snowman will tour around the UK this winter to the following venues:

  • The Opera House, Manchester (8 – 12 November),
  • Theatre Royal, Glasgow (15 – 19 November),
  • The Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (10 – 14 January),
  • Milton Keynes Theatre (17 – 20 January)
  • Theatre Royal, Brighton (24 – 28 January)
Based on the book by Raymond Briggs and the film directed by Dianne Jackson and produced by John Coates, The Snowman is a much loved festive tradition of storytelling, spectacle and magic. The Birmingham Repertory Theatre production has music and lyrics by Howard Blake, choreography by Robert North, direction by Bill
Alexander, design by Ruari Murchison and lighting by Tim Mitchell.

Howard Blake said:

I’m thrilled that The Snowman is celebrating an amazing 20 years in London’s West End.
There are very few shows that enjoy such a remarkably long life and its continuing success and appeal to new generations of audiences is a tribute to the artistic team that created the show, the dancers, the children, the musicians and Birmingham Repertory Theatre who first staged the production back in 1993. I look forward to many more years of Walking in the Air with audiences old and new.

Katy Arnander, Director of Artistic Programme at Sadler’s Wells, said:

Sadler’s Wells is extremely proud to have hosted The Snowman in London’s West End over the past 20 years.
The show never fails to delight audiences and is a great introduction to young children to the world of dance and theatre. Over the past 20 years, children continue to be enchanted with the show’s story and characters and it is wonderful to see families return year after year. The Snowman has definitely become a firm Christmas favourite with London audiences, and congratulations to the entire The Snowman team and its producer, the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. We look forward to welcoming new and returning audiences for the anniversary season
this winter at The Peacock
The enchanting show tells the story of a young boy’s adventures when his snowman comes miraculously to life on Christmas Eve. Featuring a dazzling array of colourful characters including dancing penguins, magical reindeer, a beautiful snow princess, her wicked beau Jack Frost and of course, Father Christmas himself, The Snowman
is a Christmas treat for all the family and a perfect introduction to dance for the very young.
The Snowman is suitable for all ages and tickets are on sale now from £15-£36 with family tickets costing £115 (4 tickets with at least 1 child)
