Williamsburg, Virginia is one of the perfect family vacation destinations. It can be relatively affordable, there’s loads of history at Colonial Williamsburg, the weather tends to be mild, and there’s the Busch Gardens amusement park as well.

When you’re visiting Colonial Williamsburg, you’re experiencing a living history museum, and it quite literally brings history alive for kids. There’s also the Jamestowne Settlement, and once you’ve experienced all the history, make your way to Busch Gardens for rides, thrills, animals, and excitement.

Washington, D.C.


Washington D.C. is fairly easy to get to by plane since it is a major hub of airline travel. It’s also somewhere that everyone in your family, regardless of age, is likely to find things that appeal to them.

Yellowstone National Park is one of the biggest in the U.S., and it’s often named as one of the best places to visit in the country. There are stunning colourful pools, forests, geysers and more. The park’s landscapes are varied and include mountains and waterfalls, and wildlife that calls the park home include buffalo and the occasional grizzly bear.

There are more than 4 million visitors to Yellowstone each year, and you can enjoy Old Faithful, Yellowstone Lake, and Mammoth Hot Springs.

New York City

New York City is the perfect place to go with kids, believe it or not. It’s also one of those places that’s on almost everyone’s travel bucket list, no matter where in the world they might live.

Getting around with kids on the subway keeps trip costs affordable, and there is an abundance to see and do. Kids tend to love The Empire State Building, and The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum.

There’s also the Children’s Museum of Manhattan, Central Park, and the Natural History Museum. If the weather’s nice, you can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, or enjoy the views of The Highline Park in the Meatpacking District.

Chicago

For another big city experience with your kids, head to Chicago. Try to visit in the warm summer months if possible, because there are a lot of outdoor activities and the winter in Chicago can be harsh, to say the least.

You can visit the Crown Fountain, which is a splash pad in Millennium Park. There’s also the Lurie Garden in the park, and if you are in Chicago in the winter months, you can visit the McCormick Tribute Ice Rink.

Navy Pier is home to a Ferris wheel, an IMAX theatre and kid-friendly restaurants.

Lincoln Park Zoo is free to the public, and it’s one of the oldest zoos in the country.

Chicago is also home to some of the world’s best museums including Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Field Museum. If you visit the Adler Planetarium, you can do their overnight stay, and in the Field Museum, there’s the Titanosaur, which is the largest known dinosaur.

Finally, Skydeck Chicago will be a thrill for the entire family. Located in the Willis Tower, you can step into a glass box that’s more than 1,000 feet above the ground and look down over the city.
