Win a Dining for Two – Smartbox gift from Buyagift for Valentines worth £59.99

dining for 2 valentines day competition

January is that strange month for us all, most of us have overspent for Christmas and many of us have overindulged too.  It’s the month where we tend to cut back a little to compensate for these things – be that less going out or cutting back on the takeaways for a little while.

We struggle to get back into the work and school routines after having so much fun at home with our families and there seems little to look forward to – of course, that isn’t true and there is always something to look forward too but with the cold and dark starts January just seems gloomier on the whole.

I’m not a huge romantic and tend not to head off to a restaurant on Valentines Day as they are always overbooked and with set expensive menus, that’s not to say we don’t do anything special just not on that day. I usually cook us a nice meal at home and if we do head out for Valentines we do a so a week later when the normal menus are back on the tables and the price is back to normal.

To help give you something to look forward to I have teamed up with Buyagift to bring you a lovely Valentines Day competition.

One lucky reader will win a lovely Dining for Two – Smartbox from Buyagift worth £59.99. This is a voucher which can be used in 1 of the 725 restaurants so there is bound to be something to suit everyone’s tastes and in a location near to you.

  1. We usually get a M&S meal deal for valentine’s day then we might have a night away the weekend before or after. We’re off to the new forest this year

  2. We usually have it a few days later as my girlfriend is a chef and works late that night. Normally go for a meal tho

  3. We are usually both at work so will have a nice meal at home together in the evening and will share a bottle of wine.

  4. It depends on if we can get childcare, if we can we like to go out for dinner and to the cinema. If we can’t, we have a m&s meal deal with wine and a dvd at home when our children are in bed.

  5. I usually give my husband a card and little prez but in 18 years together he has never taken me out for Valentines because he insists restaurants double their prices!

  6. Not a lot usually as restaurants are so expensive on Valentine’s Day. Would be nice to do something special as will be our first Valentine’s day as Mr and Mrs!

  7. My husband used to be a chef so always had to work on Valentines day. We’ve always done our own thing on a different evening so this year will be a novelty!

  8. I always say I don’t want to celebrate as I think everything is just so expensive so we usually just get a takeaway. Although my fiancé always buys me gifts no matter how many times I say don’t which is really sweet lol

  9. My husband cooks and he makes sure the table is nicely set with a glass of bubbly. I always make him a home made Valentines card.

  10. We don’t do anything special for Valentines day, It’s just another day, I do make a nice meal but to be honest I do that every day, haha Valentines is every day or so it should be 🙂

  11. We work different shifts so it’s hard to do anything on the day itself. We go for a meal when our schedules allow it.

  12. Well Clare, this year will be special as it’s our two years of being together celebration on the 17th of Feb & we’ll get eachother a card & maybe a small gift. I will also make heart-shaped pancakes with my son which means he’s kind of part of the celebrations.
I would ❤ to go for a meal just my fiancé & I & last year I gave him his first ever Valentines card which he has kept!
    Here’shoping your winner’s me & 😍Thanks for the opportunity😍

  13. We usually just have a quiet night in with a Marksies dine in deal, everywhere is usually busy or expensive at Valentines

  14. To be honest I make no effort with Valentines Day – I adore my husband but I show him that every day anyway! We’ll perhaps have a slightly better bottle of wine!

  15. We tend to spend Valentine’s Day having a date evening at home when our girls have gone to bed, usually with a take-away, sharing a bottle of wine and a movie.

  16. Now that we’re married we don’t normally do anything for Valentines Day so it would be lovely to go out for dinner!!

  17. Our anniversary is just a few days before Valentines day so we tend to celebrate that rather than wait til the 14th

  18. We don’t usually do anything for Valentine’s Day, but will have lovely meals whenever we fancy throughout the year.

  19. We normally enjoy a nice relaxed low key home cooked meal with a bottle of wine – then go out for dinner before or after valentines when it’s less busy and staged 😂

  20. We don’t have a tradition as such.just buy each other a gift or two & have a nice romantic tea once the kids are in bed

  21. Depending what day it falls on, we love to go out for a romantic meal! If we can’t go on the actual day, we will go on the next Friday to that day

  22. We don’t buy each other gifts or cards but I usually cook a meal that’s a bit more special than usual. Our wedding anniversary is in March and we usually make more of a fuss for that.

  23. Nothing, it’s overrated and shouldn’t be just one day. We do do something most weeks either nice meal, cinema or out

  24. We don’t celebrate Valentine’s day but we do celebrate our anniversary a day afterwards with a meal out.

  25. In the event a person says baby, you call them out on it, however not by saying baby.
That’s why if the holding they the odds are on your side.
The spring and summer months make party planning easy.

  26. It’s my birthday on the 13th so we usually go out for a meal on my birthday and then stay in on Valentine’s Day. Sometimes one of us cooks a special meal, sometimes we get a takeaway.

  27. Good day, I am so thrilled I found your blog,
I really found you by mistake, while I was searching on Aol for something else, Anyhow I am here now and would just like to say many thanks for a tremendous post and an all round entertaining blog (I also
love the theme/design), I don’t have time to read it all at the minute but I have saved it and also

  28. Honestly, these days we babysit so everyone else in the family can celebrate, we then get the favour returned on our anniversary

  29. Usually I spend it with family as my partner is a chef and always has to work – we normally celebrate Valentine’s day either a day or 2 early by having a nice dinner out somewhere!

  30. We tend to have a family meal, romantic i know!!! But we don;t have family close enough to look after the children!! Once my husband made me heart shaped naan breads!

  31. I’ve been single for a few years so I don’t do anything for Valentine’s – just relax in with an evening for myself 🙂

  32. Sit at home watching Bridget Jones in my PJ’s whilst my other half is doing the overtime he booked weeks ago – not realising Feb 14th was a special date…but at the same time wondering why they were offering so many extra shifts 😉

  33. With two small boys not a great deal! We do exchange cards and a small gift but that’s generally it 🤷‍♀️ X

  34. We normally just have a homecooked family meal. My husbands birthday is the 19th so we celebrate that as everywhere is not so busy or expensive.

  35. We don’t do anything for valentines day just another day for us, we used to have a meal out in the first few years

  36. Your so right the darker nights make this time of year feel so gloomy. Valentines for me as a single mum is a romantic candlelit tea for 3. I always buy the boys a valentines card and a little chocolate heart and buy them roses to give to family members,!Ineould love them to grow up romantic and thoughtful of others.

  37. We have a romantic day together, maybe walk on the beach and have lunch out. We give each other cards and we have a romantic evening and dinner together.

  38. We usually just go out for a nice meal together. We don’t make too much of a big deal of it because we do things for each other all year round anyway x

  39. we first got together on valentines day so we like to do something special maybe a meal unless were working on that day

  40. every valentines day my husband cooks and the children get a macdonalds treat. Its a special meal and the only time he really ever cooks .

  41. We usually go out for a meal or get a takeaway. We tend to do it just before or just after valentines day as it seems that is what everyone does and it is so busy everywhere.

  42. We have a candle lit dinner at home which we both prepare together and buy some special food in for the occasion so as it’s more unique.I’m a big lover of italian food.

  43. We tend to just have a low-key day doing our favourite things – playing video games together, watching cartoons and eating Pizza

  44. I normally send a sarcastic card and get a romantic one back, apart from that, we see what we feel like doing on the day.

  45. If we are not working (we are both shift workers) we will cook a romantic meal between us and then cuddle up on the sofa watching a film

  46. To be honest – nothing – we don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. If I was lucky enough to win then I’d use the voucher for our 30th wedding anniversary in June :o)

  47. With my birthday, wedding anniversary, mothers day and valentines day usually within a month, something has to give so we keep Valentine’s low key with just cards and token gifts

  48. Until now, nothing apart from a takeaway, but this year I have a new boyfriend who actual makes romantic gestures so we’ll see!

  49. Nothing at all! The year we got together, we couldn’t be together so we celebrated with a meal out a week later, on the 21st. It was great – no cheesy music, no cliché-ridden romantic menus, no red roses and best of all no crowds. So we’ve celebrated, either with a meal out or a night away, on the 21st every year since then. It’s been 45 years now.

  50. Usually nothing. Combination of no money (eldest daughter’s birthday that week) and lack of babysitter. We haven’t done anything alone since before our 3 year old was born!
