**Collaborative post**
I have written previously about my miscarriages, It isn’t something I shy away from talking about, however, before I had the first one I didn’t actually know anyone personally who had had one – or not that I knew of as it is thought to be a taboo subject so no one talks about it.
I didn’t want to be afraid of mentioning it in front of friends and family, and I didn’t want them to not talk about it either. By speaking out about my experiences I found that friends would open up about their difficulties, be that miscarriages or infertility problems – it gave them the freedom to know that they weren’t alone and they had someone to listen to them. Many of us found we had so many questions and answers about infertility in women and by speaking out about my issues, helped others to do the same too.
I went on to have 5 miscarriages in total. After my 3rd I went for various tests to see if there was a reason behind them but alas there wasn’t and it was deemed as one of those things. I had always fallen pregnant fairly easily up until my 3rd miscarriage however after that it took over a year to conceive again, that pregnancy resulted in the birth of Emmy, our much-longed-for baby.

After finding it so easy to conceive, having issues was another huge blow and so very hard to deal with. The monthly disappointment of my period being late, taking a pregnancy test, and then not seeing these much-awaited 2 lines was heartbreaking all over again – a different kind of pain as I had a plan with my consultant to try taking baby aspirin daily upon finding out I was pregnant. This time we hoped the pregnancy would carry to term but now the hard part was actually falling pregnant in the first place.

We ended up having to see the doctor and having more tests to see why I wasn’t falling pregnant – it just seemed like test after test at times. I had to track my temperature, pinpoint my ovulation, and well have lots of sex, as well as avoiding certain foods, alcohol, and stress…..let me tell you, avoiding stress wasn’t easy at all – it is rather stressful when you are tracing your bodies signs and symptoms, keeping note, pinpointing telltale signs, etc, and it isn’t something I came away from unscarred. It took its toll mentally on me and when I finally did become pregnant with Emmy – a pregnancy which went to term….and longer as she was far too comfy and stayed until 42 weeks, I couldn’t enjoy that pregnancy one bit. I was a nervous wreck and didn’t enjoy it – forever scarred something would go wrong again.
It was then I found it hard talking to friends about it, I had spent so long and worked so hard for this that I felt a fraud and a failure for not enjoying it at all.

BUT, I am not alone in that either. It is actually very common for women who’ve had any kind of fertility issues to enjoy a pregnancy.
It isn’t only women who suffer from infertility issues, this affects men too and it isn’t something they are very likely to discuss down the pub or at football with their mates, or even in the comfort of their own homes – for them the who conversation is far harder to open up about.
