5 Family-friendly things to do in Belfast

Posted on April 17, 2023February 11, 2024

**Collaborative post**

In the digital age, keeping the kids away from screens can be a bit tricky. With everything just a tap or two away, it’s easy to fall into the trap of staring at a screen for hours on end. But the time we have with our littluns is precious. Rather than waste the weekends away, it’s a fantastic idea to get out and make some memories with them while we can.

If you’re looking for wonderful family-friendly things to do in Belfast to create those cherished memories, you’re in the right place! Here are some Belfast events to keep you all off the sofa.

W5

w5

When: Opening times vary – typically open late morning/midday until 6 pm on weekends

Where: The Odyssey, 2 Queens Quay in Belfast BT3 9QQ

Award-winning interactive science centre W5 is perfect for kids and big kids alike. With over 250 interactive exhibits to explore, it not only offers hours of fun, but lessons on science and discovery too. Perfect for rainy days since it’s indoors, there’s all sorts to discover such as VR, seasonal exhibits, daily science shows, a dinosaur and space-themed soft play area, a storybook-themed area, robots, and so much more.

Monthly Family Days on Belfast Barge

When: Sunday 30th April 2023

Where: The Belfast Barge in Belfast BT1 3LG

Every now and then it’s a great idea to let the littluns let loose and get stuck into some fun activities they might not usually have the opportunity to do. The monthly family days on the Belfast Barge offer a joyful party on the last Sunday of the month, allowing kids to join in the baby disco and messy play. There’ll also be superheroes and princesses to get the little tykes all giddy. Tickets are available now on Skiddle, with kids’ tickets costing just £4.50 and adults going free. All ticket sales are donated to the registered charity Lagan Legacy.

Annie

annie musical e1681725802120

When: Tuesday 31st October – Saturday 4th November 2023

Where: Grand Opera House in Belfast BT2 7HR

Straight off London’s West End, Annie is a musical we all know and love with incredible tunes such as It’s the Hard Knock Life, Tomorrow, and Maybe. If it’s been a minute, let us refresh your memory. Annie is living in the horrible Miss Hannigan’s orphanage in 2930s New York, during The Great Depression. Billionaire Oliver Warbucks chooses her to spend a wonderful Christmas but Miss Hannigan hatches a plan to destroy Annie’s search for her true family. A gripping story with incredible music, Annie is perfect to enjoy as a family this year.

Streamvale Open Farm

Streamvale Farm

When: Open 10.30 am to 5.00 pm daily from 15th April to 30th September

Where: 38 Ballyhanwood Road in Belfast BT5 7SN

Who doesn’t love cute, cuddly animals? And with it now officially spring, there is literally no better time to visit than now with all the new baby lambs, goats, and more. The farm even offers cuddle time in the Cuddle corner with rabbits, chicks, ducklings, and sometimes puppies – heaven!

You and your family can also help bottle feed the baby lambs and goats, which is obviously adorable, but also a precious memory your kids can look back on for years to come. And we didn’t even get started on the tractor rides, play areas, ice cream tasting, sheepdog show, and the countless other thrills the farm offers!

Clip ‘n Climb Dundonald

When: Open 2:30 pm – 7:30 pm Wednesdays to Thursdays, 10:30 am – 7:30 pm on Saturdays and 10:30 am – 5:30 pm on Sundays

Where: 111 Old Dundonald Road in Belfast BT16 1XT

Or, if your family are the active sort, Clip ‘n Climb might be more up your street! Clip ‘n Climb is all about getting you moving and feeling the adrenaline rush under your skin as you tackle indoor climbing obstacles. Using state-of-the-art technology, climbing is super safe so you can focus on having a great time and beating the walls. Some walls even use create augmented climbing experiences so you can play different games as you climb. There’s nothing like the feeling of accomplishing something you thought you couldn’t!

Our time off is precious. We should make the most of it while we have it! Instead of lounging on the sofa all weekend, why not get out and about with your family and explore all Belfast has to offer while having a brilliant time together and making memories?

This blog blends my nannying experience with the everyday chaos of raising tweens and teens. Thanks for joining us!
