Get Your Exercise Wear Ready
After a busy day, you aren’t going to want to rummage through your wardrobe to find your gym gear. But if you have it neatly ready on your bed when you come in, it’s readily accessible and you don’t have to think about it. If you don’t have any gym wear, consider purchasing some new kit through Gym King. Finding items you actually like exercising in will make a huge difference to the chances of you working out.
Make Kids A Part Of Your Exercise
Kids love running, playing and jumping about. Join in when they kick a ball about, play with them at the park, and start a dance party with them in your garden. It might not look exactly like your old fitness routine, but it will definitely be just as active. If you do like exercising on your own, take the chance to jog with a stroller while they’re napping, or run at the park while keeping them in your eye-line.
Find A Parent Fitness Buddy
Find another parent that’s trying to get back into fitness as well. They might help motivate you to go to the gym after dropping the kids off at school, or babysit while you do your own workout routine. Sometimes all you need is someone in the same position as you calling you up and dragging you out of your house and back to that class. Whether you’re trying to lose weight or just feel healthy, a fitness buddy is a great way to help you reach your health goals.
Buy An Exercise Video
If you can’t find time to get out and exercise, bring the exercise to you. There are hundreds of online fitness videos like Joe Wicks available. You can do a workout directly from your own living room. You could even purchase some indoor gym equipment like kettlebells or weights, to add some variation to your home exercise workout. There are hundreds of routines you can try online, from hatha yoga to HIIT workouts.
Accept Your Routine Has Changed
Although it’s definitely possible to stay fit as a busy parent, it’s also realistic to accept that your routine has changed. Having kids is a full-time job on its own, and you might not have time for that hour run or that extended gym session. If you have young kids, lack of sleep and full-time parenting will take their toll on your energy levels. But if you adjust your expectations and get back into a new fitness routine, you might just find you enjoy it more than your previous one.
