We have now seen the end of Summer officially and we now turn our thoughts to Christmas and festivities, but it doesn’t have to mean all cold weather and gloom – the coldest of weather isn’t here yet so there is time to fit in some fun activities.
So, without further ado, here are 6 exceedingly fun things to try this autumn.
Try new water sports
There are a multitude of water sports out there suitable for all kinds of people; from total beginners to absolute experts, there will always be a new water sport to try. Summer might be the warmest time to take a dip in the sea, but it is also the busiest. In fact, you will probably get more space and better waves as we creep into autumn.
Grab yourself an inflatable paddle board, oars, and even some add-ons to transform the board into a kayak when you feel like it, and get yourself out on the open waves. Just remember to stick to specified areas of the beaches and take all necessary safety precautions.
Uncover untouched beaches
The UK boasts an expansive coastline. Though there are lots of seaside towns and popular tourist spots, there are also a lot of seemingly untouched, hidden, and secret coastal gems waiting to be discovered.
Instead of going to the same old beach, take advantage of the cooler weather to go on long hikes and adventures, trailing breathtaking coastlines, and stopping regularly to take in the serene views.
Take a spontaneous road trip
Before Autumn ends, jump in your car and embark on a road trip. There are plenty of rural B&Bs and motorway hotels that can take walk-ins whenever you need a break, or, alternatively, rent a campervan and camp out under the stars.
Make a festival in your back garden
Summer is filled with festivals all over the world. However, you might not have been able to make it to one this year – after all, they are pretty expensive! But don’t fret, just throw your own instead.
Round up your friends, and throw a BBQ party in the backyard (or fake it indoors if it’s too cold), complete with plenty of beverages and all your favourite music. Round off the evening with a bonfire and smores, maybe even some fireworks, before all retiring for an indoor campout.
In fact, you can catch some awesome sets from Reading and Leeds Festival on BBC iPlayer, so why not project them onto a big screen for even more authentic festival vibes?
Watch the sunset (or sunrise)
The earth can boast natural beauty that is unparalleled, which is especially the case with sunsets and sunrises. Make it your mission to see at least one sunset and sunrise this year, and even couple it up with a little bit of stargazing, too.
It is the perfect time for introspection and an insanely romantic date idea – even better, you can easily double it up with a few of the other activities on this list.
Find a parade or carnival
Summer is full of carnivals and parades, including multiple Pride celebrations and Notting Hill Carnival, to name a few. Even if you have missed the big hitters, find out about local parades, celebrations and carnivals, and get involved.
