When you’re trying to keep a baby busy, the minutes can feel like hours. Playtime is a great way to make your days more fun and exciting!
You can do various activities, and they’ll vary for different ages. Babies also develop at different rates, so some activities may not be suitable just yet.
All in all, playtime makes for a good bonding experience. It’s educational and interesting too!
If you’ve run out of ideas or need some inspiration, we’ve got you covered. With help from your baby club and other experts, we’ve come up with stimulating activities that your baby will love!
Birth To Three Months
Young babies aren’t too active just yet, so it is best to engage with them through sensory activities. Focus on touching and smelling. There are so many ways you can get creative with this.
Infants will probably start trying to reach and grab for things by the end of their first three months, and they’ll begin to love sounds.
A great activity to try is tummy time. This is great for strengthening their necks, backs, and abdominal muscles. Simply put the baby on a big blanket, belly down and place age-appropriate toys within their reach.
Tummy time is great for building the strength needed for rolling over, crawling, sitting up, and walking.
Four To Six Months
By now, the baby is more physically active. When it comes to activities, now is the time to make noise since the baby will start making some distinct sounds.
You can also incorporate some leg exercises. Almost anything you do with the baby at this stage is bound to make them laugh – it’ll melt your heart!
You can play peek-a-boo, a simple game, but it will have your baby cheesing from cheek to cheek, and they can be entertained by this over and over again.
Just be super enthusiastic and excited, pull funny faces, and the parents are bound to have loads of fun doing this too!
Another fun activity is to blow bubbles. Babies love bubbles; they’re the perfect combination! Blow the bubbles past the baby’s face and watch the excitement take over as they try to pop them.
The excitement guides their curiosity, and this activity is excellent for developing fine motor skills and strengthening muscles.
Seven To Nine Months
At this stage, your baby has most probably started to sit and crawl. And the baby is beginning to understand that their actions make things happen and will also want to explore sounds. It’s all about cause and effect at this stage.
You can make musical instruments. This is so much fun; give your baby one object like a wooden spoon or a spatula and let them bang it on something.
Put some rice in plastic cups to make a shaker – put a lid on it. Otherwise, things will get very messy!
Play fun games with their favourite toys, like dolls or plastic foods. This is great for their imagination.

Ten To Twelve Months
By now, your baby is a young child, and games that teach them gross motor skills are important. One great activity is counting. Let your child count different objects, this way, they learn to understand quantity.
Another fantastic idea is to do puzzles. Ones with chunky wood pieces will work well. This helps develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness.
Thirteen Months And Above
Now you can get crafty, and there’s room for more fun ideas. There are so many options for activities, from tactile experiences to observation skills and language development.
A wonderful idea is to sing nursery rhymes. This introduces them to new words, and they can start recognizing sounds. This is great for their development.
These are just eight activities. There are so many other games out there. Babies grow up so fast, savour the moments and enjoy them while you can.
It’s an incredible experience celebrating every new milestone with your little one!
