So this year you’ve decided to go off the beaten path and have a family holiday in Dubai. This is somewhere I would love to visit with my family, and hope to be able to within the next few years.

Dubai is a vast modern city full of vibrant culture and innovative technological advances. Here you will find something that every family member will love. Have a look at some of the following ideas, there will be some which your kids will enjoy, and have a look at these tips if it’s your first visit. 

Day trips

Of course, you’ll want to spend most of your time in Dubai, but if you do have an extra day or two, you should definitely consider a day trip to Abu Dhabi. You can fly there nearly effortlessly with Saudi Airlines, and find tours that offer pick-up and drop-off from your hotel. Once you are there, you should make sure to visit the following:

Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding

You are, after all, visiting a country with a culture that’s probably quite a bit different from your own. And it’s such a great time to teach your kids about tolerance and empathy for people from other cultures – especially with the tumultuous world of today. 

The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding was founded with the aim of helping westerners understand Islamic culture. The Centre includes the Jumeirah Mosque, the only mosque in the country that non-Muslims can attend. 

The Centre also hosts various exhibits, both educational and cultural, that change from season to season. While you’re there, your family will also get to enjoy a traditional Arabic meal and an authentic tea service. 

Perhaps the best part of a visit to the Sheikh Mohammad Centre is the opportunity for an open discussion on Islam, a safe space where you can ask about various aspects of Islamic culture, from politics to women’s rights. 

Miracle Gardens

If you really want to experience the innovation that makes Dubai so unique, you should definitely take a day to visit the Miracle Gardens. These gardens really are miracles, as they are a lush oasis in the middle of the desert. 

These gardens are more than 72,000 square meters and are home to hundreds of millions of flowers. You and your family can have a picnic lunch in the shade of a cabana. There are a wide variety of food stands, offering everything from waffles to kebab to pizza, and options to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.  

Make sure to go to the Miracle Gardens in the fall, winter or spring, because it’s closed in the summer – too hot for the flowers, and for you!

Dubai Parks and Resorts

Dubai Parks and Resorts opened in 2016 and truly offer something for everyone in the family to enjoy. This is the largest theme park in the Middle East and is actually made up of three parks and a water park. While you’re there, you can enjoy the high life with a stay at the five-star Lapita Hotel – don’t worry, your cheap flights to and from home allow you to afford a little luxury during your stay. 

Museum of Illusion

Above all, Dubai is a mysterious city, and nothing showcases that better than a visit to the Museum of Illusion. This museum explores the relationship between what is seen and what is perceived and will absolutely blow your and your kids’ minds. And you can take all of the photos you want, in fact, in some exhibits it’s even encouraged. 

Burj Khalifa

While you’re in Dubai with your family, you must make a stop at the Eiffel Tower of Dubai, the Burj Khalifa. This magnificent structure is the tallest building in the worlds, and the views are absolutely breath-taking. Plus, while you’re there, you can have lunch at the highest restaurant in the world, Atmosphere, all the way up on the 122nd floor. 

Dubai is a modern city with old roots that offers something for every member of your family. Your kids will be delighted by the numerous parks and tall buildings, and will also learn how to appreciate new cultures at the Sheikh Mohammed Centre. And if you have time, make sure to take a day trip to see a bit of what other UAE cities have to offer.
