Changing The Look Of A Room With Posters And Wall Art

I’ve shown you a few times both Emmy and Harry’s bedrooms. These are my favourite rooms in the house as they are so cosy and comfortable, and suit the children’s personalities perfectly.

Emmy loves pink and purple but she has a vibrant personality so we added a feature wall with flamingo wallpaper to help add some colour to her room, without going overboard.

A feature wall meant we could add colour to the room and then leave the other walls purple – it would have been far too much to continue with the wallpaper all around the room. It is a feature she absolutely loves and brings the whole room together really well. We can then add prints and cool posters to the walls for additional colour. This is a great feature for kids bedrooms as you can change the posters as often as you like and is far easier, and cheaper than repainting the walls when the kids change their minds on what they like…..which happens rather frequently in this house.

Harry’s bedroom is a little more elaborate and took me longer to create his feature wall, I painted him a Batman Skyline in his room and he loves it – that took a few days for me to finish due to having to wait for different paint colours to dry.

I absolutely love the finished feature wall and everyone always comments on it when they come over for playdates. It does, however, make the other walls look rather plain and bare. These have been left a pale blue colour.

A quick way to brighten up plain walls is by adding wall art to them, this is a great way to add a splash of colour and can be perfectly chosen to suit the style of room, personality etc. and can be as temporary or permanent as you want them to be. You can have them framed and move them around the room, keep them where they are or change up the pictures whenever you want a change.

This collection of modern comic designs would work perfectly on the other walls in Harry’s bedroom.

The next room on my to-do list is the playroom/living room. It is one big room which I have separated into 2 different areas, using the sofa to split the room into separate spaces.

This room hasn’t been decorated to suit these spaces and is in desperate need of being updated, however, as the children are 8 and almost 11, I don’t really want to decorate the playroom as a playroom per se as they don’t spend a lot of time in there any more.

My current thoughts are to decorate the whole room in a pale colour with one feature wall across the largest of the walls. Then in the front room, I can add pictures of the children, wedding photos etc and then some fun prints in frames on the wall of the playroom to brighten up that area by doing this I won’t be limited to keeping it as a playroom or having to redecorate at a later date. I could just change the pictures in the frames and reclaim this room as it once was before the children were born and return it to a huge living room.
