enjoying time as a couple after kids

How dating may change as lockdown is easing?

Posted on July 24, 2020October 30, 2020

**Collaborative post**

It’s a strange old time currently isn’t it? We have all been forced to spend more time at home under the same roof as our partners/husbands then we may have ever done before and it can cause frictions you never knew existed.

We are all used to having some kind of escape, for ourselves or even for some time as a couple, that could be heading out to work, seeing our friends or going for a meal/cinema etc. Currently, those things aren’t an option, and we have no idea how long for, so this strange time has put pressure on even the strongest of relationships, but what about the single people out there? They have new kinds of struggles which certainly didn’t exist last year.

Last year dating would have been far different – go out to the pub and meet someone, go clubbing and hook up with someone on the dance floor or swipe on an app and meet up with someone new until you meet your perfect match.

We have all been social distancing since March, and many of us in full lockdown or working from home so lack of physical interaction of any kind has been something which we’ve all missed. Now lockdown is easing, many of us working again and pubs, shops and restaurants also opened things are much different. Tables are distanced from each other, names are given when you enter somewhere new so you can be traced if other diners test positive for covid-19 and with these safety measures in place many may feel that meeting someone new from a dating site may feel a little too risky and scary.

Could you imagine going on a first date with someone you’ve found on www.nostringsdating.net for instance and having to wear a face mask when making small talk and getting to know each other? How weird would that be?

Sex dating sites and other dating apps/sites may really need to adapt in this time to make sure we can all feel safe meeting up/hooking up with other people

The introduction of video calls used on dating sites

This would mean that users can see each other and have a face to face meeting removing the dangers of contamination, they wouldn’t need to wear face masks and would be in the safety of their own homes.

These could be used for first meetings to see how you get on and then of course if things progress could be used instead of sexting.

Outdoors dates

Instead of meeting up in a bar or going to a restaurant, you could start enjoying outdoor dates such as:

  • Picnics
  • Strolls in the wood
  • A walk down the river
  • An open-air cinema date
  • A beer garden
  • A stroll along the beach

Alternative date night ideas:

  • Games night via video/zoom call – you can test each others knowledge by playing a game, a favourite of mine is cards against humanity – this can give you an inside into the other person’s sense of humour – I really love this game especially after a drink or three
  • A picnic outdoors – set up a picnic blanket in the park or even your back garden, its cheaper, fun and less crowned than a restaurant, and being outdoors you’ll not need your face mask.
  • A garden cinema date – Pull a white sheet over the garden fence and project a film in the comfort of your own garden, grab your own snacks, set up a blanket on the floor or a comfy corner, snuggle up and relax.

The thing we need to remember is that is this all new and strange but it won’t last forever!
