Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul – Guest Review

I’ve read the books a few times to Emmy however she is at that inbetween age where cartoons are still cool and older programmes are just beginning to capture her attention, we even tried watching the last movie together but it didn’t grab her just yet – I think maybe next year she will be more into movies and books such as these.

So when I was invited to London to see a preview screening of the new movie Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul I knew it wouldn’t be worth taking Emmy but my Niece and Nephews would love it so they went in our place.

In DIARY OF A WIMPY KID: THE LONG HAUL, based on the record-breaking book series, a family road trip to attend Meemaw’s 90th birthday party goes hilariously off course–thanks to Greg’s newest scheme to (finally!) become famous.

I’ll pass you over to Ruth who will tell you all about their day out.

6:30 AM Sunday morning, two boys excitedly wake up each other to what sounds like a herd of elephants running around like a bunch of chickens!!! All the children were very excited as we are off to Leicester Square Central London to see premiere of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul!!

Today can not come soon enough for these boys and their sister, who has now also been woken up by the sound of shrieks and passages from the previous diary of a wimpy kid books being read aloud by the two boys! All my children are big fans of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid and do own all the books and have watched  all the films over and over, so much so, I think they know the words off by heart and can recite them without an issue!

At 8.30am, off we go to Loughton underground station where we park with ease and make our way to the platform. Getting straight onto the circle line is easy for us, not living too far out of London it only takes about 40 minutes to arrive at our destination only having to change once onto the Picadilly line.

It’s eerily quiet in London at this time of the morning…quite nice really! There isn’t a hustle and bustle of commuters as there would be on a Monday morning and it’s mainly tourists wondering and taking in the sights.

We are greeted at Cineword Leicester Square with a flood of advertising and happy faces. Doors opened for breakfast at 9:45am and then the main event kicked off at 10:30am

My children stayed glued for the whole 92 minutes running time of the film and laughter could be heard throughout.

What did the children think of the film?

Emma age 14
What did you think of Diary of a Wimpy Kid The Long Haul?
“I thought is was very good thank you. I loved it very funny.”

What was the best bit?
“When Greg gives one pidgeon a Cheeto, then lots of Pidgeons come and attack the Heffley family. It was really funny seeing them come out of the car with feathers on them!”

What do you hope will happen in the future to the Heffley family?
“I hope that Rodrick moves out and finds a job. It would be funny seeing how he handles the real world and if he can find a job he is actually good at because in the film, he thought a mini safe was a microwave!”

Jamie age 8
What was your favourite part of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul?
“When Greg turned orange in the hot tub! I want a hot tub now so I can turn orange just like Greg did!”

What do you hope will happen in the future to the Heffley family?
“I hope that Rodrick and Greg both fall in love with the same girl as I think it will be funny seeing them both trying to impress her. Then I hope after all of the arguments, she goes off on a date with Rowley.”

Max age 10
What was your favourite part of Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: The Long Haul?
“When Manny won the piglet then was reunited with it at the end. I want a pretty little piglet now – but I’m not sure Mum would agree.”

What do you hope will happen in the future to the Heffley family?
“I hope they get to go on a trip to London and lose Manny and the piglet at London Zoo as I think it would be funny to see Mrs Heffley freak out.”

My kids are now wanting to go on a road trip, Jamie wants a hot tub and Max wants a pet piglet! If you like toilet humour or at least your kids do then they will love this movie.

Let’s just say they were totally buzzing after the film desperately wanting to watch again in the cinema when it releases on May 26th!! Yes I’ve booked tickets but shhhh, don’t tell them!!
