Dietbon review: Making losing weight easy with a diet meals service

Diets – they are just so hard to stick to I find, as a busy working Mum I often find I just don’t have time to have breakfast as I am so busy rushing around after the children, ensuring their homework is back in their bags, they’ve had a good breakfast and a drink, ensuring they stop playing/watching the TV and actually get dressed, then there’s getting them to brush their teeth and doing hairs etc. That on top of having to force them out of bed as they just hate getting up on time for school – but will be wide awake early at the weekends annoyingly. Recently, I have been trying out some pre-made meals from Dietbon to see if they could make life a little easier. Read on to see my full Dietbon diet meals review.

What is Dietbon?

The Dietbon weight loss program consists of a complete range of ready-made calorie controlled meals which are delivered to your home, with 4 meals a day, for 6 days a week. There is a breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner and a dessert each day for 6 days. These meals are made with 100% natural ingredients.

This is perfect for those individuals who struggle to stick to diet plans, aren’t great at cooking themselves balanced meals or just those wanting a little kick start.

As well as providing all the meals and snack you will need for the 6 days they also provide support in the form of telephone consultations and online meetings from a team of dieticians.

Many customers lose up to a healthy 2 pounds a week using the Dietbon plan.

What do you get for the week?

I trialed a weeks plan which consists of all the meals and snacks you need for 6 days, you are allowed one free day a week and within your delivery, you’ll receive a cookbook of healthy meal ideas for this free day. This diet plan starts from £44 a week and you’ll receive your meals via DPD courier ready to start when you choose.

Your delivery comes in a large box consisting of:

  • 12 main courses
  • 6 breakfasts
  • 6 snacks
  • 6 desserts
  • 28 Day Detox Tea ‘’Morning & Night”

You are able to swap out any meals you know you won’t like or could be allergic to, so if you don’t eat fish just let them know for example.

I’m not a fussy eater at all and there aren’t really any foods I dislike so I left the delivery of my meals as it was, and received the following which were for lunch and for dinner – you just choose what you fancy on the day, although it is suggested you eat the meals with carbs for lunch and those with veggies for dinner:

  • Stuffed tomato
  • Roast chicken fillet with mashed potatoes
  • Sautéed pork with diced vegetables and bacon
  • Pork tenderloin with mashed potato
  • Chicken Yassa with rice and green olives
  • Chicken fillet with rice and almond sauce
  • Conchiglie (Pasta), Pacific salmon and spinach
  • Chicken tikka masala with rice and quinoa
  • Hake fillet, with whole grain rice and vegetables in a Kerala sauce
  • Lentil and Eggplant Dhal in coconut sauce
  • English Beef stew and winter vegetables
  • Healthy Fish pie with cauliflower puree, cod, and trout

For breakfast, I received pre-made pancakes – packaged up in 2’s ready to warm and eat.

The desserts I received were organic Apple compotes and snacks were mini lemon cakes.

Dietbon review – what did I think?

I did like the ease of this diet plan, there was no wandering around the shops trying to decide on what to cook for the week, well what to cook for me anyway, I still had to cook for Paul and the kids.

They certainly are convenient on that front, I could just pop into the kitchen, grab a meal and pop it into the microwave and 2 minutes later lunch or dinner was ready.

The portion sizes are very small, however, this is so you are calorie deficient throughout the day which in turn leads to weight loss, and while the portion sizes didn’t bother me at all and I wasn’t left feeling hungry at the end of the day, the lack of fresh fruit and vegetables was a concern of mine but you are actually able to add raw or cooked veg to your plate with these meals.

You are also able to add 2 servings of fruit and dairy a day which certainly helps to keep you feeling fuller for longer and less like you are on a diet.

These certainly didn’t taste like your traditional diet meals, most of them were absolutely delicious and you’d be forgiven for thinking you’d just grabbed a ready-meal in the supermarket for lunch/dinner. They weren’t dry either as I have noticed with many other diets/low-fat meals, these were full of flavours and the sauces covered the plates (not just a little bit in the pack as we’ve become used to). I hate nothing more than dry foods so this was perfect for me.

Due to the fact, these are pre-packaged ready meals some of them really didn’t look at all appetising but actually, they were very tasty indeed, I gave up trying to plate them up to be visually appealing as for many of these meals it just wasn’t possible.

There were a few that I did have to throw away after a few mouthfuls as they really weren’t to my taste at all and I just couldn’t stomach them – these were the fish-based meals, with the fish pie reminding me of baby food sadly.

The Beef stew and Pork tenderloin were my favourites, full of flavour and something I’d certainly have again and again.

The breakfast pancakes were really tasty, not something I would usually grab for myself but something I guess is better than the lack of breakfast I usually have time for and meant I could eat them on the way to school while walking the kids.

The cakes I managed only half of one before binning, I’m really not a fan of cake and for me, this was just too dry and bland. The kids did enjoy those indeed so they weren’t wasted.

For your free day, you can eat a healthy and balanced meal, it is encouraged that you choose your foods well on this day and that this becomes a second nature to choose good food habits. There are suggestions and recipes in the booklet which comes inside your pack. Is it easy to stick to?

I found it was very easy to stick to this plan but then I do work from home and don’t usually head out during the week.

It was easy for me to grab a meal, pop it into the microwave and then carry on working and meant I was in the kitchen and away from my desk less than I usually would be.

That said it was very boring in terms of the choices of breakfasts and the snacks weren’t for me, the fruit pots reminded those the kids had in sachet form as babies and the texture made me heave.

I could possibly keep this plan up for a few weeks but any longer I would be missing my fruits and vegetables far too much.

Did it work?

That’s what we all really want to know of these types of diet plans, isn’t it?

Well, yes it did. I lost 3lbs for the week I tried this diet plan.

I didn’t feel hungry at the end of the day like I thought I may have done, but I am also trialing the Modius headset and have noticed that my snacking has decreased since using that so that may have been helping too.

Additional thoughts

Dieting for many can be hard and if you struggle with portion sizes and will power this may be better for you, and if you aren’t cooking for others it certainly can be a more convenient option.

For me, I wouldn’t try it again or continue as it works out more expensive, I would be buying this then the foods for the rest of my family so it would almost double my food bill for the month and is an expense we just couldn’t afford.

If you’ve a disposable income, no-one else to cook for and are used to eating a lot of ready-meals it’s going to be right up your street and would probably be cheaper than a weekly shop as you’d not have to buy anything else food wise for the week.
