Today marks a very special day, 13th September would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th Birthday and it certainly should be a we remember this literary genius.

I grew up reading Roald Dahl books, I read them at home and in school. They were books my parents could read to me and ones eventually I would choose to read myself, and as soon as Emmy was old enough I purchased the full set of book for her and we read these together.

Dahl had an amazing way of bringing stories to life, the words would jump from the pages and even if you’d not seen any of the film before you could envisage what the characters looked like.

Emmy and I often have long discussions about the characters and what she thinks they should be like.  He absolute favourite Roald Rahl book is Matilda, closely followed by The BFG – of course her love of this grew even more when we were lucky enough to attend the UK Premiere of The BFG earlier this year.

It is beautifully illustrated by Sir Quentin Blake. A lovely hard backed book with 59 pages which help bring the magic of Dahl to life in front of your eyes. This book is perfect for both children and adults and will give an enchanting new insight into the world of the famous author. The book is a scrapbook style with unknown facts, anecdotes and background stories for some of Dahl’s most famous books such as James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Danny the Champion of the World and many more.

This book has been created by children’s author and long-term Roald Dahl enthusiast Stella Caldwell.  There are 4 large booklets within the book, including ‘A spotters Guide to Giants’ and ‘The Witchophiles Manual – How to Spot a Witch’, plus a personal letter inside an envelope and 2 large maps.

Emmy is very keen to take this book into school with her tomorrow when the whole school will be dressed as their favourite Roald Dahl character for Roald Dahl day.  She will be dressed as Fantastic Mr Fox to celebrate 100 years of Roald Dahl.

  92. I love the witches, I read and reread all Roald Dahl books as a child and the witches would give me chills and have me hooked cover to cover.
