Hatchimals, one of the BIGGEST must have toys for Christmas 2016 are back again with a brand new pocket money collectible version and once again we are lucky enough to among the first getting our hands on them. You can read our original Hatchimals review here and we are excited to bring you our Hatchimals CollEGGtibles review.
Unlike the originals these won’t break the bank with the blind bags containing a single egg costing just £2.99. There are also packs with 2 eggs and a nest inside which cost £4.99 and the larger pack contains 4 eggs and a bonus character which costs £9.99.
Like with most of the kids collectibles there are A LOT to collect. This is series 1 and there are 70 in total. I can see these being the next playground toys which are swapped around while friends all compete to be the first to make a set.
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are small versions of the original but on a much smaller scale and aren’t interactive. You don’t play with the egg to hatch it like the originals.
Each egg has a heart on the front which changes colour when rubbed and the eggs themselves are different colours depending on which animal family is contained inside. In the packs you’ll find a map showing where the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles live and on the reverse you’ll find the animal families you can collect. Each family has a different egg colour.
Children (or adults of course) can tick off the animals as they’ve hatched them so they can keep track of those they still need to collect.
Hatching the egg
This can be done in a number of ways, use two hands to pull the egg apart, one hand and try to crack like a proper egg or our preferred method as demonstrated by Emmy and Harry in our video is to bash them on the wall.
Inside the egg
With 70 animals to collect you’ll find numerous creatures in an array of colours from a cute orange bunny with wings to a pink zebra with sparkly wings.
What the kids think
These are a HUGE hit in our household, with both Emmy and Harry already asking for more.
They have been played with lots more than their original Hatchimals already, the children have kept the bottom of their eggs to ‘keep their pets warm’, fought over who was having the only nest, lined them up, placed in you cars and just do what children do best – used their own imaginations!
Any toy which holds the kids attention for so long is a winner in my books.
I love there are no batteries to change, they make no noise and they help children just to be kids by using their imaginations to role play, make up scenarios and voices for their characters.
They are a good price too and could easily replace the kids weekly magazines which cost a similar price to the 2 packs and they don’t actually even read the magazine, wanting only the toy on the front.
I’d like to see more accessories, one nest in the double pack is available currently but I feel there should also be something in the larger packs too.
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are available from Spinmaster. Why not head over to Twitter today at 5pm until 6pm where you will find out more about these new toys, there may even be some prizes (there definitely will be prizes!).
