How much do babies cost in their first year?

Posted on August 17, 2017

I guess the actual answer to this one is like asking how long is a piece of string?

All babies are different, while my first was a very easy baby who took to breast feeding immediately and happily took bottles of expressed milk and would poo once or twice a day, my son had silent relux which although feeding him was easy it would cause him pain so I would have to mix Gaviscon with expressed milk and syringe into him before beginning every feed.

The Reflux medicine upset his stomach and he would fill his nappy up to 10 times a day and I ended up having to switch him to comfort milk to help is tummy problems.

Busy Bees have created this inforgraphic to show roughly the costs of babies in their first years….take a look and see if you feel it is accurate.

HiRes Baby InfographicEmmy certainly had more than 4 dummies in that period as she would sleep with a 3 dummy rotation system from around 6 months old, one in her mouth and one in each hand – she would rotate these around in her sleep – and she stopped napping completely at the age of 1, while Harry rarely ever napped as he could only do so while propped upright on my chest and with another child around this is not possible all day every day.

If you also have a non-sleeper like me you may want to search for a preschool in Kettering or in your local area for a little rest, yes I am joking but should you be returning to work this could be an option for you.
