Gutter and downspouts, though often overlooked, are both essential components of a house. As a matter of fact, they are no small feat to have properly and professionally installed, costing around $3,000 for an average-sized home of under 2,400 square feet. Although it might be costly, in the hands of the best gutter replacement Sydney services, it will all be worth it in the interest of your home’s integrity.
The General Cost of Gutter Installation
Aluminium gutters and downspouts are the most common type of gutter system installed. As mentioned earlier, these usually cost approximately $3,000 per home, speaking on a general average. This makes out to about $20 per linear foot.
For the total of the project, however, costs may begin as low as $1,000 or $7 per linear foot. Prices might peak at around $5,000 or $33 per linear foot.
The Cost of New Gutters
Gutters can either be sectional or seamless. Sectional gutters are made from metal or vinyl material and can be installed by professionals or homeowners on a DIY project. Seamless gutters are made of metal and are fabricated and installed only by professional companies.
Nine out of ten metal gutters are made out of aluminium and not steel, as aluminium is the preferred construction material due to its rustproof and lightweight qualities.
Seamless Aluminum Gutters
Seamless gutters are also sometimes called continuous gutters. They are metal gutters made up of extruding large aluminium coils. Through a fabricating machine, the gutter can be created to the exact necessary length without the need to fit together each individual gutter section. The only joints will be at the corners.
This type of gutter is immensely popular as it quite nearly eliminates the possibility of leakage along the mid-run. Since they can only be put together with the use of a large, truck-mounted machine, seamless gutters can only be installed by professionals.
600 feet of white-finish aluminium gutter coil should cost about $2 to $3 for every linear foot. The individual cost of materials needed for the seamless gutters may vary widely though.
Sectional Aluminum Gutters
Aluminium gutters in 8 to 10-foot pre-made sections can be pieces together to the length you need. This type of gutter is put together using screws or rivers and gutter sealant. At the ends, the sections are cut to fit into the corner pieces.
Sectional gutters can be installed by a professional company, a contractor, or even a homeowner. One unique advantage of the sectional gutter type is that individual sections can be removed and replaced should any sort of damage occur.
An 8-foot section of white-finish aluminium gutter will cost around $2.50 to $3 per linear foot (considering the materials only). White is usually the cheapest choice of colour; other colours cost another $0.20 to $0.30 per linear foot.
Vinyl Sectional Gutters
These are newer types of gutters in the market. They are usually the same size and side profile of metal gutters, although they are much heavier than aluminium ones. This means that they will make them heavier on your house, and will be prone to bending and sagging when filled with water and leaves.
Nevertheless, they are simple to install because the material is easy to cut and drill. They are also the least expensive type at about $2 per linear foot only (material-wise).
Alternative Gutter Materials
Copper
Although copper starts off bright and shiny, it eventually oxidizes into a rich green hue. Unlike steel, copper does not rust and its green colour makes it an excellent match for older homes. However raw copper is expensive, therefore copper gutters are expensive.
Copper gutters will cost approximately $20 to $30 per linear foot to install, and $10 to $12 to purchase the materials.
Galvalume
Galvalume gutters are made of steel with a coating that’s roughly half aluminium and half zinc. Its steel base gives it a strength that surpasses that of aluminium gutters, and the aluminium-zinc coating creates a tough shell that protects against rust.
Much like copper, galvalume gutters cost $20 to $30 per linear foot to install, however materials are much cheaper at only $2 to $3.
