How to embrace your Staycation in the UK

How to embrace your Staycation in the UK this year

Posted on June 28, 2021January 14, 2022

**Collaborative post**

After a year at home with restrictions on our social lives in place, most of us are desperate to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life where we can enjoy a much-needed break. However, with travel restrictions and social distancing rules still dominating tourism in countries all over the world, more people are opting for a staycation in the UK. While we totally get that it may not be the high temperatures and sandy beach holiday that you had in mind, there is no reason why you can’t have just as much fun right here in the UK.

So, we have put together a few tips and suggestions on how you can embrace your staycation in the UK and make the most of your time away.

Book in advance

With everyone desperate to get some time away, staycations are looking to be increasingly popular this year. So with that in mind, one of our top tips is to ensure that you book well in advance. Even if you think you have loads of time to get prepared, we still recommend that you get reservations booked straight away. There is nothing worse than having lots of plans in mind only to find that everywhere is fully booked when you arrive. From your accommodation to activities, and even restaurants that you want to eat in, ensure to get your reservations in as early as possible.

Get your kids involved in the planning

Another of our top tips that never fails when it comes to embracing your UK staycation is to get your kids involved in the planning process. Even the best-behaved children can play up a bit while you are away, and trying to force your kids to do activities they don’t want to do won’t make for an enjoyable trip for anyone.. But it is a whole lot easier to get your kids involved in the itinerary if they have had a say in the planning. You could spend some time leading up to the holiday looking at some of the best places to visit and things to do for kids their age. But ensure that you take the time to plan some grown-up things as well, as the whole point of getting away is so that everyone in the family can have fun, not just the kids!

Find great accommodation

One of the best things about a staycation in the UK is that there are so many amazing places for you to visit. From seaside holidays to bustling city breaks you can find a staycation that is perfect for you and your family. However, it is also important that you take the time to consider what sort of accommodation you need. While you may automatically look to book a nice hotel, you may find that self-catering accommodation such as a cottage or apartment is more suitable for your needs. Having your own living and kitchen facilities can make a staycation a whole lot easier when travelling as a family, and more affordable.

Family-friendly activities

Of course, any good staycation in the UK needs to be full of exciting family-friendly activities for you all to enjoy. But you can also use this as the perfect opportunity to educate your children while they have fun. For example, the Science and Industry Museum in Manchester is one of the most popular museums in the North West and is great for kids of all ages- as well as adults! It is home to the world’s oldest surviving railway station for passengers from 1830. It can teach your children all about the industrial revolution with its interactive exhibitions and demonstrations.

But if you are also looking to do something a bit different on your staycation this year and want to create memories that will last forever then why not take a trip to Chill Factore. Here you can learn a new skill in the form of skiing and snowboarding. They also have some great offers and deals in preparation for all the families who are making the most of their staycations in the UK this year. Their Snow Park family pass is perfect for some family fun on the donut lanes, ice slides, and sledges!

Even if it isn’t the holiday you had in mind this year, a staycation in the UK can be just as much fun and memorable as a trip abroad. With the convenience of not having to travel too far (and no self-isolating when you return) you can have an amazing break away this year and have experiences and learn skills you never thought you would!
