A romantic getaway is seen as an intimate affair, most often between two people. But it’s also true that as a parent, you may not have the chance to isolate this travel experience to just you and your partner. If you care for a small child you would rather bring along with you, for practicality or cost purposes, then this is totally valid too. Many young parents can and do take their children along with them on honeymoon for example, even if this isn’t the arrangement one would consider ‘the default.’
After all – being ‘romantic’ is not necessarily just being intimate – that can come at a more private time. Having a wonderful time as a small family unit, perhaps to celebrate your anniversary, can be a lovely alternative and just as romantic. You may just need to adjust your plans a little and make the affair family-friendly from head to toe.
But how can we do that, without disparaging some of the valuable one-on-one time you may have wanted, such as whispering sweet nothings into one another’s year during a late-night restaurant visit, or rowing a sailboat onto the lake in one another’s company? Well, the first thing to do is not view your small one as a liability, but as a welcome guest.
From here, you may find fun on your vacation in the following ways:
Find Appropriate, Comfortable Accommodation
It’s important to find appropriate and comfortable accommodation for the whole family so that no one has to feel unaccounted for. This guide for places to stay in Durham showcases a great many excellent lodgings. A spare bed for the child in a twin hotel room can be a good option, or you may wish to rent out more space, such as an Airbnb cottage, to give you and your partner more privacy without disturbing your child.
Find A Theme For Your Adventure
It can be nice to opt for a fun theme that the family can enjoy. Perhaps you hope to spend some time at the beach, or alternatively, you wish to enjoy a more cultural or nautical adventure. So for instance, heading to the coast of Wales and staying in a comfortable hotel, heading on boat trips and fishing, can play a big part in how you structure the itinerary of your experience. Or you may decide to have your getaway somewhere magical, such as a Disney adventure or another branded tour that you feel is most appropriate.
Manage Your Schedule Well
It’s good to manage your schedule properly when travelling with a child. You may have ‘morning experiences,’ then take a nap in the mid-day so your child can recover, and then head out in the afternoon and the evening so they don’t feel irritable. Managing your schedule also means understanding the overly late nights you may have otherwise had are probably not appropriate for this kind of holiday.
With this advice, you’re sure to enjoy a romantic getaway even if you have to bring your child with you, but instead of feeling like that’s a liability, you can enjoy a wonderful family adventure you’ll all remember.
