This is my final post on my Modius testing, my three-month trial is now over and I am ready to share my final thoughts and conclusions with you. When I started this trial of the Modius headset way back in April I was a little unsure how a headset could help with weight loss but after about 6 weeks it was apparent that actually, it was helping, and not only that but I had lost 9lbs and 2 inches from my waist.

A quick recap of what Modius is:

The Modius headset is all about using neuroscience to make weight loss easier for you. It targets the vestibular nerve which is known to influence the hypothalamus and brain stem and possibly reduce your cravings and appetite. Apparently it:

  • Reducing Cravings
  •  Decreasing Appetite
  •  Making You Feel Fuller, Quicker

This device is worn for at least 5 days a week for an hour at a time.

It sits over your head with pads stuck behind your ears and attached to the headset. This is linked up to your phone or tablet and from there you can set the levels for the headset, these range from 1 all the way to 10.

So here I am at the end of my trial and I know you are dying to find out the results so I will dive straight in with those.

Final weigh-in

Well, I am not actually weighing in as such – what I actually weigh is for me to know and private BUT I have indeed lost 12.5lbs in total since I started using the Modius headset and 3 inches from my waist.

ribbon around waist

If like me and you don’t like looking at the scales or tape measures to see how well you are doing then I can highly suggest using a ribbon method for measuring your loses, at the start, tie a ribbon around your waist and cut it when the two ends meet, then at the end you can physically see how you are doing without obsessing with numbers.

Final thoughts on the Modius Headset

I still haven’t gotten pasted level 6/7 yet and am still suffering very badly from motion sickness while wearing this, in fact, it seems to have gotten worse in the past month and it really reminds me of my pregnancy days when I couldn’t walk past someone eating without being sick, or eat certain foods – I was on anti sickness tablets back then for really bad sickness.

Thankfully, it does stop within 15 minutes of taking off the headset but it fills me with dread putting it on in the evenings as I know I will spend the hour feeling rather ill.

I actually dropped back levels this month going back to 2/3 as the sickness and swaying feeling was getting worse.

I still find I am unable to do anything else while wearing the headset, it is recommended you sit or lay still, watching TV, reading a book or even typing but I have to lay down with my eyes closed otherwise I feel very sick indeed.

It has forced me to take time for myself, otherwise, during that hour I would be working or housework etc but it’s not an enjoyable hour.

It’s not all doom and gloom however and it has certainly helped to cut down cravings, I no longer pick at the children’s leftovers and I am sleeping far better – even going to bed early a few nights a week as I know my body needs to catch up and I am finally listening to its cues and prompts instead of sitting up working to meet deadlines. I am finding I am far more productive this way too as my mind and body are fully rested so I can start a new day fresh and ready to work instead of reaching for the coffee in a bid to wake up and start working.

I am also walking, even more, I am trying to hit my 10,000 steps a day at least 5 days a week and now everyone is benefitting for the additional exercise. The children have Brownies and Beavers after school and instead of relying on Paul to collect  them once they have finished we walk home instead, him starting a new job and him not being home in time does help but the kids are enjoying it and it means they are getting far more fresh air and exercise which is a great bonus.

As you can see, we don’t always hit the target (although this is the app on my phone so when at home it doesn’t pick up the steps as I don’t wander around with my phone in my pocket all the time, much to my husband’s annoyance). We will also be increasing our step counts at the weekends now too as Paul will be working weekends so I’ll be wearing out the kids by walking up to the park, swimming pool and my parents house as we won’t have access to the car (we currently only have 1 car as I work from home so there is no point paying out for two, this is about to change to no car for a period as Paul’s old company car has to be returned. We plan to manage for a while without one as it’s just not needed).

Pro’s and Con’s of Modius

Pro’s:

  • Can be used at home
  • Easy to use
  • Requires no additional thought
  • Charges via USB so no batteries to shell out for
  • Lightweight so can be taken away with you
  • Has reduced my food cravings and I stop eating once I feel full as opposed to clearing my plate
  • I am sleeping better and falling to sleep earlier
  • Increase exercise

Con’s:

  • Uncomfortable to wear
  • Initial cost and need to buy replacement pads
  • Motion sickness/sway effect
  • Not tacking progress on my app

I found initially it would track my progress on the app on my phone however as the weeks went on this began to be rather temperamental, and now barely works for any of the sessions. Modius are aware of this glitch and are working to find a fix. I find that the first part of my session tracks but if I increase the level at all during the session it stops tracking.

Conclusion and will I continue to wear this device?

They say time flies when you are having fun, and I can honestly say these have been the longest 90 days ever! That said I can see the results for myself and I am now able to get into clothes which are a size smaller than when I started this trial, so while I do still dread the feeling of wearing the headset I think I will continue to use it but probably not as often as during the trial.

I was managing to wear it for 5 – 6 days a week for the past 90 days, I am going to try perhaps every other day now or every few days and hopefully I’ll stop the anxiety I have been getting in the lead up to putting this on until I’ve finished the session.

At first, I thought I’d give it a try because it has a lot of benefits but it’s kind of scary because it causes motion sickness which, I’m trying to avoid since I travel a lot. Thank you for sharing this information and I’m happy it works for you.

There is actually a 90-day money back guarantee on this device, so you could trial it to see if it worked for you. It works differently on everyone so it could be that you may not experience motion sickness at all. There were many of us on the trial and we all had varying results

Such a shame it makes your feel nauseous but the results are brilliant. I need to lose some weight and have hit a plateau

      Thank you kara.
I was the same and am glad I have seen some actual results. Not everyone feels the motion sickness with this and there is a 90-day money back guarantee should you want to try to see if it works for you

I’m not sure I would be willing to try this, especially because of the motion sickness side effect. I suffer from motion sickness on boats and in cars, so I am not sure how I would get along with it.

It actually seems to work differently on many people, you can try the device risk-free for 90 days to see if you get motion sickness

Interesting that you are suffering from motion sickness while wearing this. My pregnancy days were pretty bad so I don’t think I would be able to use it but everyone reacts differently. As you mentioned, maybe wearing it less frequently may help.
