There is one thing which is guaranteed when we all eat out as a family – that is I will never get to eat the meal I have ordered alone!
Even though the children each have their own menus and we let them choose whatever they like from the children’s menu they always decide when it comes mine looks better or they have changed their minds.
It’s the old cliché of ‘the grass is greener on the other side’ and this is the same for EVERY restaurant we go into.
I’ve even tried being really devious and ordering the hottest curry on the menu, or something I really think they won’t want to try but NO, now Harry loves Calami because he had to try it when I ordered that, they love dipping naan bread into my hot curries and even the salad is stolen from my plate.
Of course, I don’t mind at all and I love that they aren’t fussy eaters and will happily try new things, I would hate for them to be the other way and struggle to feed them when out.
What I do usually do when we eat out, however, is make sure the children order something different to each other, this is because of them changing their minds when it all arrives and wanting something from the others plate. Once they have seen what their sibling is eating they do usually want to share so I give Harry half of whatever Emmy has ordered and vice versa, all that faffing around though does mean mine starts to get cold even before I’m having to share that out too.
We were recently invited to Prezzo to try one of their new sharing dishes and I have to say I was very impressed indeed.

It took away the pondering over the menu for ages as I already knew what I was ordering for the 4 of us and it meant that there was no wanting to steal from my plate meaning I could eat hot food and although I was sharing it, none was being removed from my plate to do so.
The meal arrived quickly and I would advise making sure all unnecessary items are removed from the table in advance of this because the table will become a little crowded if like us you’ve only small table for 4 people. I placed the menus and condiments under our table to make room.
There is a choice of 4 different kinds of pasta for the sharing bowls, these are Penne Arrabiata, Spaghetti Bolognese, Spaghetti Carbonara or Penne Alla Rusticana.

We ordered the Spaghetti Carbonara which is a family favourite of ours. It arrived in a large bowl which is placed in the middle of the table and each of us was given plates, and Paul took charge of the serving tongs to dish up our dinner.
The kids loved the fact that they could help themselves to more when their plates were empty and it was great watching them go back for more whenever they wanted some.
They did actually turn it into a competition between themselves as to who could eat the most with Harry just winning that one with his slurping eating style to get it down faster.

We finished off with ice-creams and were all definitely full – in fact, there was even some Carbonara left over as we were defeated.
I think this is a great idea for those families who do all like the same dish and you are fed up with the food envy which happens when you eats out – and of course, it actually works out cheaper to have one meal cooked and share it all!
