I’ve written a few times over the years about my weight loss journey, I have a love/hate relationship with dieting and have the most rebellious streak so if I tell myself I can’t have something I end up wanting it even more and then it’s all I can think about.
A few years back I committed to the 5:2 diet and this actually worked really well for me and saw me losing a whopping 2.5 stone. This diet is where for 2 days a week I ate just 500 calories a day and watched what I ate for the rest of the week. Hitting target in around 5 months was great but I soon slipped back into opening a bottle of wine with my sister when we had dinner together twice a week, eating the kids leftovers because I couldn’t be bothered to cook after a busy day and skipping meals for convenience which of course led to over-eating again for the next meals as I was starving.
Teamed with a few family bereavements, stress and depression creeping in again and my diet has gone to pot and this year I have been seriously wanting to combat it head-on, especially as in December I will be hitting the big 40!
I’ve already been upping my exercise levels, ensuring that I hit my 10,000 steps a day goal at least 5-6 times a week and I’ve also added apple cider vinegar into my daily routine in a bid to help to lower my cholesterol (I have Familial hypercholesterolemia (FH) which is an inherited condition causing high cholesterol ) and boost weight loss and to lower my blood sugar – there is diabetes throughout my family so I am cautious that it could be in my future too.

In a bid to move more I have been using my scooter when out with the kids, it means I am able to catch up with them and we can stay out for longer, get further and generally have lots of fun. Who said exercise had to be done inside a gym or be boring? And it is surprising just how many muscles you can work out this way all done with a huge smile and having so much fun.
Introducing Modius
Along with a group of other likeminded ladies, I have teamed up with Modius to give something new a try in regards to weight loss. I will link to the other ladies posts at the end of this one so you can see how others are getting on. We will all be trialling Modius headsets for 90 days and will feedback our progress over 3 blog posts.
The Modius headset is all about using neuroscience to make weight loss easier for you. It targets the vestibular nerve which is known to influence the hypothalamus and brain stem and possibly reduce your cravings and appetite. Apparently it:
- Reducing Cravings
- Decreasing Appetite
- Making You Feel Fuller, Quicker
This device is worn for at least 5 days a week for an hour at a time.
It sits over your head with pads stuck behind your ears and attached to the headset. This is linked up to your phone or tablet and from there you can set the levels for the headset, these range from 1 all the way to 10.
It is advised you start at a low level from 1-3 for the first few days, as you need to get used to the tingling sensation it can give and many users have reported feeling a sway effect.
I have been feeling both of these, I have mine set to level 2 and have to lay down as it has made me feel a little queasy, a tad like seasickness or travel sickness. I am hoping this fades as I become used to the headset.
You can find out more about how the Modius headset works here.
Setting Up

[AdSense-B]
Setting up this device was actually really easy, and took only a short few minutes.
You need to download the app from the app store for your phone or tablet, it is available for both Android and Apple devices.
Once set up you can enter your birthday, height and weight and even set notifications to remind you to use your device on a daily basis – this is really handy as I am the most forgetful person and have to have alarms and notifications set for everything.
From the app on your phone, you can see your progress as it logs when you’ve used this device and you can update any weight changes as an when you weigh yourself.
To connect the headset you need to turn on the Bluetooth on your phone, then you push the on button with is located on the right of the headset pushing for 4 seconds until you hear a beep, you are then prompted to press again to pair the two devices.
On my Huawei phone, I needed to also go into my Bluetooth settings to confirm I wanted to pair with the Modius headset, not all phones require you to do this so if yours doesn’t pair it could require this additional step.
You can also see how long you have had the headset on for as it counts down for your hour session.

I LOVE that you’ve been using the scooter! What fun! Good luck – can’t wait to see how we all get on x
I can’t believe you did so well on the 5:2 diet Clare!! I totally bombed on that — it didn’t suit me at all!! I’m really hoping that Modius is going to help me shift those stubborn lb that I can’t seem to get rid of. Fingers crossed it works for you too. I can’t wait to see how we all get on over the next 90 days!
I saw this last night on TV and it sounds really intriguing – cake and chocolate are really my weakness when it comes to weight loss so it would be really interesting to see if this could help with my cravings. I’ll be very interested to follow how you get on.
Mines all the carbs and wine lol
Oo this sounds really interesting! I have tried several diets over the years all with varying degrees of success but I always struggle to stick to them long term. This sounds really simple to use and I cant wait to read all about your progress!
I find I also put the weight back on again
Wow, that is a unique idea when it comes to weight loss. Good luck with your journey, I can’t wait to see how it goes for you 🙂
Thank you very much
