Surfboard

Whether you are a newbie or an advanced surfer, a surfboard is what enables you to catch a wave. For every type of surfer, there is a specific type of surfboard which ensures they can surf properly without any hassle. For instance, if you want to surf big waves you require an advanced surfboard which gives you the ability to ride that monstrous wave.

Whereas for newbies a longboard is a must as it is safe, durable, and wide enough to learn balance and coordination. For you to get the right board, consider your surfing ability and the size of the wave to achieve the best surfing experience.

Leash

A surf leash is like a rope that is attached to your ankle and connected to your board. It is considered one of the most important surfing gears for every kind of surfer. When you are learning how to surf, there will be a lot of falling and slipping. And if you do not have a leash, your board will probably float away with the current.

A surf leash will ensure that you stay connected with the board at all times and also it won’t drift away and interfere with other surfers around. When choosing a leash make sure it is tangle-free, durable, and as long as your surfboard. Anything shorter will interfere with your movement on the board while surfing.

Surf Wax

When you are at the beach, you will always notice surfers applying some kind of wax onto their board. The reason why they do it is so that they achieve maximum grip on the board while catching a wave. Slipping from the surfboard is quite common and can happen to anybody even if you have been surfing for many years.

The surf wax is added to avoid any kind of slippery and provides more stability while surfing. Keep in mind there are different types of surf wax for different seasons so do your research before you buy wax for your board. You can also consider a traction pad that gives you a grip when you’re riding your wave.

Sunscreen

When you are at the beach, you can wear your beach attire or your swimsuit to achieve a nice tan. Even when you are surfing on the water, you cannot escape the scorching heat of the sun. The best way to protect your body from sunburns is by generously applying sunscreen lotions.

Even if you have protected yourself with a good quality wetsuit, prolonged exposure to the rays of the sun can cause skin-related problems. Choosing a high-quality sunscreen that has at least 30 SPF will protect your skin from the sun and allow you to enjoy your time surfing.

Wetsuit

Another important piece of surfing equipment is a wetsuit that is designed to keep you warm when the temperature drops. Apart from different sizes, wetsuits also come in different thicknesses that are suitable for different climates.

When you are looking for wetsuits, as much as there are designs and good-looking suits, choose one that is comfortable and does not restrict your movement. If you are uncomfortable in your suit, you won’t be able to surf well and can create pockets of air that make them heavy while in the water.

Fins

When you buy a surfboard, you will also need to add find to your board. These fins are usually attached to the bottom of your board. The reason why surfers attach fins to their board is that it gives them the ability to twist and turn on the waves easily.

When you start surfing, you will understand how unpredictable waves can be so by adding fins you will be able to navigate the waves better. As you grow in your surfing, you will understand the importance and ability in adding the number of fins.

Ready to Surf?

Once you have gathered all the above surfing equipment, you can now surf your dream wave. Keep in mind that surfing is not very hard to learn but surfing blindly without any protection can be dangerous. So make sure you are well protected by purchasing the surf gear and if you’re surfing on your holiday, travel insurance can save you from additional costs.
