Super Hero lunchbox ideas for back to school

Posted on September 6, 2016April 25, 2018

Emmy went back to school yesterday and Harry is all set to return on Wednesday so the morning chaos will begin again shortly. Today went hitch free as being the first day back I’m in that super organised gang of getting everything ready the night before and laying out ready to grab – it also means I can grab an extra 10 minutes in bed too, we all need those extra minutes after the summer holidays with no alarms set.

Thankfully Emmy has school dinners, Harry however will now be doing 3 full days and needs a lunchbox on these days.

However, I no longer find these to be a chore and lots of picnics over the summer has helped me to mix things up a little to ensure they don’t become boring with the same things day-in-day-out, that said both Emmy and Harry would live on cheese or marmite sandwiches if they had the chance.

To coincide with the launch of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War DVD which came out on the 5th September I’ve teamed up with Disney to come up with some super hero style lunch ideas, as lets face it ALL children love super heroes and ALL super heroes have to stop for lunch at some point.

For those of you who’ve not had the chance to see the film yet:

Rated 12, “Captain America: Civil War” will see viewers picking their favourite team in this non-stop action packed Marvel film – will you join Team Cap, commanded by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) or Team Iron Man lead by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)

When government pressure to rein in the Avengers drives a deep wedge between Captain America and Iron Man, best friends are turned into bitter enemies. Against a backdrop of divided loyalties, mysterious villains and new allies, the ultimate battle for the future of the Avengers and all humanity erupts in this spectacular adventure!

Lunches fit for Super Heroes:

With only a limited amount of time to make school lunches I wanted to chose a few ideas which would be really quick and easy to prepare the night before or first thing in the morning: Super Hero lunchbox ideas:

Super Hero Lunch box ideas

  • Captain America pasta:
Pre-cook some pasta the evening before – perfect if you are cooking for dinner as you can just cook a little extra and leave to cook.  Stir in some tomato pasta sauce or pesto and server with halved baby tomatoes and either grated cheese or cheese cut into star shapes.
Of course you could also add spinach for added super hero strength.
This can be served either hot or cold
  • Shield sandwiches:
These can be made with whatever filing your child likes best.
Butter the bread and make the sandwich as usual, cut into circles using a cookie cutter. Cut a slice of tomato and place on top of the sandwich, cut a star shape from the cheese using either a sharp knife or a cutter.
  • Captain America cupcakes:
Make cupcakes as usual and ice with white icing, top with red and blue stars or edible balls.
  • Red, White and Blue fruit salad:
A little bit of naughty teamed with healthy fruit – a favourite with my kids.
Take a small handful of Strawberries, wash and slice in half. Take a few Blueberries and wash – mix together and top with white chocolate buttons.
  • Banana and strawberry swords:
A fruit kebab made with strawberries and bananas – if adding into a lunchbox for school try using a straw instead of a stick.

Super Hero lunch ideas

There are lots of other fun ideas you could make if you’ve more time such as cranberry and blueberry cookies, Blueberry muffins, Banana bread with strawberry compote stripes……the only limit is your imagination – mine sadly is a little lacking however if you need healthy lunchbox ideas I highly recommend taking a look at the Eat’s Amazing blog written by Grace who has the most beautiful and creative lunchbox ideas for children and who leaves me often feeling like the BEST mum ever after I try some of her ideas and they are greatly received by the kids, of course there are days I feel highly inadequate too but it means I just try harder the next time. Do look at her awesome Instagram feed to see for yourself.

Disclaimer: I was sent a selection of Captain America goodies and the new DVD in exchange for this post.

Absolutely LOVE all these ideas, especially the little shield sandwiches (SO cute!) and loving the sound of the red white and blue fruit salad! Thank you so much for your lovely recommendation of my blog, on a day when I was feeling rather inadequate myself you’ve absolutely made my day, so thank you!!

My son loves superheroes. I think he would eat anything if it resembled Captain America’s shield!
