The BFG Dream Jar Trail

Posted on July 16, 2016August 6, 2016
You will have to have been living under a rock to have missed all the excitement of the upcoming release of the new BFG movie which is set to hit UK cinemas on the 22nd July 2016.  I am VERY excited to have been invited to the UK premiere of this tomorrow and I can’t wait!
I’ve my tickets at the ready and a new dress waiting to be worn for this very exciting occasion, it is set to be a brilliant day for Paul, Emmy and myself (sadly Harry is too young to attend so he will have a fun filled day with his Auntie and cousins instead, and I will make sure to spoil him on our return).
The BFG was one of my favourite childhood books growing up, I read all of the Roald Dahl books over and over again.  There was something magical about his style of writing which transported the reader into the story itself and you could imagine what the character’s looked like even without the few simple illustrations within the book.
The BFG Dream Jar Trail art display can be viewed until 31st August
To celebrate the launch of the new 2016 Steven Spielberg movie adaptation of this classic book 50 celebrated famous people have revealed their childhood dreams and aspirations.  These have now been transformed into art sculptures by talented artists and The BFG Jar Trail which is a public art installation can now be found across the UK in partnership with Unilever.
The whimsical sculptures have been placed in giant Dream Jars up to six feet tall to form an art trail in London and across the UK for everyone to see this summer for free.
These dreams, much like those in the story, will be set free after the art exhibition ends only instead of a child dreaming that dream these Dream Jars will be auctioned off in collaboration with Paddle8, with the proceeds going to raise money for Save the Children.  The will help support their vital work in some of the toughest places in the world and help make sure every child has the chance to make their dreams come true.  It will also benefit a specialist nursing programme supported by Roald Dahl’s Children’s Charity.
Dream Jars have been created by director Steven Spielberg, actor Mark Rylance, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Sophie Dahl, Professor Stephen Hawking, Simon Cowell, Sir Richard Branson, Dame Helen Mirren and Graham Norton amongst dozens of other high-profile individuals supporting this project in order to raise money for children across the world.

Steven Spielberg, the film’s Academy Award® winning director has dreamt of having “All the sweets in the world but this child in a candy shop would have no ill effects from overindulgence” – his artwork is entitled ‘Sweet Dreams’ and can be on display in Leicester Square.   Spielberg says “All kids deserve to have the chance to dream big so I’m dedicated to be a part of The BFG Dream Jar Trial so that we can share our dreams together and support the work of Save the Children across the world.”
HRH The Duchess of Cornwall’s dream of sharing the magic of books has been brought to life by art director Michael Howells.  The duchess says “The power of a good story is immense.  It starts a voyage of discovery into different worlds that broadens and stimulates our minds.  My dream is that every child learns to read and discovers the lifelong pleasure of books.”

Among the places hosting these jars are The Museum of Modern Art in Glasgow, The Lowry in Manchester, The Hayes shopping area in Cardiff and world-famous London Landmarks such as Trafalgar Square, The Tower of London, Leicester Square, Harrods, Emirates Stadium and The Shard.
The art display will be visible until the 31st August – so why not head off for some FREE summer holiday fun and see just how many of these jars you can find.  I would of course love you to share your pictures with me when you do find them – just tag me into Instagram using Emmysmummy1, on Twitter using Emmys_mummy or on Facebook (share to my page – Emmysmummyblog) – with your permission I will share these pictures.
The auction will launch alongside tomorrows film premiere (17th July) at paddle8.com/bfg

Hi, I’m Clare – Mum to Emmy and Harry, ex-nanny and the writer behind Emmy’s Mummy. Based in Essex, I share honest tales of family life, parenting teens, top tips from a former nanny and our love of adventures, food, and UK staycations. We’re always up for exploring – whether it’s a trip into London, a caravan break, or just getting outdoors with a picnic. This blog blends my nannying experience with the everyday chaos of raising tweens and teens. Thanks for joining us!
