**Collaborative post**
With children home all day, every day, in these uncertain times, there is no doubt that they will be playing with more toys than normal, and may need more space for home-schooling too.
So, it is important that you utilise all of the room that you possibly can in your child’s bedroom. Here are five ways that you can maximise the space:
Buy the Right Bed
There are different bed types that work well in a child’s bedroom, and it is important that you buy the right bed frame that suits both comfort and practicality.
If you have two children, then the best option would be to invest in a bunk bed rather than purchasing two single beds and potentially spending more money and taking up more valuable floor space.
However, if your child is slightly older and prefers to do their home-schooling in their bedroom using their computer, then perhaps a cabin bed with a pull-out desk would be better. This will save you trying to find room for a desk bought separately and should be cost-effective.
Add Shelves
Children will benefit from having plenty of shelves in their bedrooms, a place to display all of their books, DVDs and more. Again, this will save on using storage boxes that take up floor space.
The important thing is to ensure that the shelves are high enough for your child to avoid bumping their head. There is nothing worse than an injury from some dodgy DIY!
Use Mirrors
Placing mirrors around the room will make the room seem instantly bigger, even though it technically isn’t really extending the room. Using a focal point and angling your mirrors towards that will make the room look deeper.

Plus, mirrors reflect the light and will brighten up the room, which is another tactic used to make a room feel bigger. Interior designers do this a lot to ensure their box rooms feel a little less tiny.
Clothes Racks
Wardrobes take up loads of valuable playing-space on the floor; your child would likely benefit more from clothing racks around the room.
Clothing racks are great in the corners of the bedroom and can be used to hang up t-shirts and trousers. Realistically, how many pieces of child’s clothes actually stay out of the wash long enough to stay hanging up anyway?
Storage Boxes
Leaving stuff hanging about can not only make a room untidy but can also decrease the size of the room. If you need to purchase storage boxes, then make sure they are the right size to fit into certain parts of the bedroom that will be left untouched otherwise, like under the bed. If you are having problems fitting everything into the storage boxes you may need to condense your children’s toys down. Old videos and CDs can be converted digitally to free up space while old comics or books can be sold online and repurchased digitally too.
