1. Make a Schedule

Professionals don’t just clean randomly – they set up a schedule to tackle each room and task. Figure out which chores need to be done daily, weekly, monthly, seasonally, and annually. Assign certain days for mopping, dusting, cleaning the bathroom, washing windows, etc. Stick to your schedule and cleaning will become a habit.

Don’t forget to delegate some of the tasks to others living in your home. It’s hardly fair if one person has to do the bulk of the domestic chores. Your kids can tackle jobs like emptying the dishwasher and putting the trash out. It’s good to give them a sense of responsibility, and one day, when they have their own home, they will thank you for teaching them how to clean. Kids can also earn pocket money for helping with some of the everyday tasks such as emptying bins, putting away their clean washing and making their beds.

2. Work Top to Bottom

When cleaning a room, start up high and make your way down. This stops dirt and dust from falling onto already-cleaned lower surfaces. Dust ceiling fans and light fixtures first, then shelves and tops of furniture, and so on down to the floor. If you want to get someone else in to do these tasks regularly or even as a one off then you can search online for companies near you, such as “professional house cleaning in Mukwonago.”

3. Remove Clutter

De-clutter surfaces before cleaning them. Put away scattered papers, dishes, toys, etc. so you can really get underneath to clean properly. Professionals recommend decluttering for 15 minutes a day to keep your home tidy.

4. Use Colour-Coded Supplies

Assign each room or task a specific coloured cleaning cloth to avoid cross-contamination. Bathrooms can be blue, kitchens yellow, floors green, etc. Also, label sinks and buckets for each product, like wash water vs. rinse water. Most professional cleaners do this; they use eco-friendly products, too. Consider using them too, so you can do your bit for the environment.

5. Work from Cleanest to Dirtiest

Clean less dirty rooms first before tackling really dirty jobs. Go from top to bottom in each room, as this stops you from spreading dirt to already cleaned areas. By working in this way you’ll feel you have achieved far more in a shorter time, yes the dirtier rooms will still need doing but when you look around at all the other rooms you’ve managed to clean the task won’t feel so daunting.

6. Soak First for Stubborn Grime

For things like grease or soap scum, let your cleaner soak first to soften the gunk up. Spray and let sit for a few minutes before scrubbing. It’ll save your elbow grease in the long run.

7. Scrub and Wipe in Overlapping Circles

Go over surfaces in overlapping circles when scrubbing, mopping, or wiping. This ensures you don’t miss any spots. Take your time; no area should be gone over just once.

8. Rinse Thoroughly

Whether washing dishes, mopping floors, or cleaning the bathroom, be sure to rinse surfaces thoroughly after applying cleaner. Leftover chemical residue can damage surfaces.

9. Allow Time to Air Dry

Let surfaces air dry completely after cleaning instead of wiping dry. This prevents streaks on glass and floors. Plus, it allows disinfectants time to work properly.

10. Finish with the Floors

Vacuum carpets and mop hard floors last so you aren’t tracking dirt over them as you clean. Work your way out of the room as you mop. Let the floors fully dry before walking over them after cleaning.

If your home needs a deep clean, or you don’t have time to do a thorough job, hire professional cleaners. The results are always worth it.

Using professional cleaning methods will get your home looking spic and span. Develop a schedule, tackle top-to-bottom, soak first, scrub overlapping circles, and rinse thoroughly. With some time and elbow grease, you can clean like the pros.
