3 easiest ways to unblock a shower drain

Posted on February 24, 2025February 24, 2025

**Collaborative post**

Although it seems trivial, a blocked shower drain can turn your supposedly good day into a nightmare. This is because when you have a blocked shower drain in your bathroom, you won’t be able to enjoy having a shower as much as you usually do. Even in some cases, you won’t be able to have a shower at all because the water will flood your bathroom. So, if you have a blocked shower drain in your bathroom, you have to immediately fix the problem before it ruins your life. You don’t have to worry here because, in fact, unblocking a shower drain is easy and doesn’t require as much strength as you might usually assume. The following are the 3 easiest ways to unblock a shower drain that you can try.

Use a drain unblocker product

The first way to unblock a shower drain is to use a drain unblocker product. In fact, when it comes to how to unblock shower drain, this is the easiest way because it doesn’t require any technique to perform. All you need is a drain unblocker product that you can usually get from a home improvement store or any store that sells cleaning tools and equipment in addition to hot water. Then, you only need to follow the manufacturer’s instructions that usually come with the product. However, the instructions usually tell you to pour a sufficient amount of the drain unblocker product into the blocked drain and let it sit there for several minutes. After that, you only need to flush the drain with boiling water to break the clogs that cause the problem.

Poke with a metal wire

The second easy way to unblock a shower drain is to poke it with a metal wire. Usually, you can get a metal wire from a wire hanger that you have in your home. But first, you have to straighten the wire hanger to make an elongated shape while leaving a small hook on its end. Then, you can start poking the blocked shower drain with the metal wire after opening the drain cover. Once you feel that you have hit the “jackpot,” you can start by twisting the metal wire several times and pull it off the shower drain. The clog should be hooked by the hook end of the metal wire and pulled off from the shower drain, allowing it to run smoothly again.

Agitate the clog with a plunger

The third easy way to unblock a shower drain is to agitate the clog with a plunger. You can get a plunger from a store selling cleaning tools and equipment because it is a very common toilet cleaning tool. To use a plunger, you only need to put the rubber cap on the shower drain until it completely covers the drain. Then, you have to fill the area around the drain with water so that the plunger is submerged. Finally, you only need to push the plunger up and down several times until the clog is broken down by the suction force created by the plunger.
