Homemade Christmas Gift ideas

4 Handprint Christmas Card Ideas for Children

Posted on November 27, 2018November 15, 2024

Every year we make our own Christmas Cards, the kids love it, it adds that personal touch and they are usually far better than the once they produce at school – Emmy’s this year was a Christmas tree made out of hearts coloured in using pink and purple colours – yes it did look pretty but it took me ages to work out it was supposed to be a tree and not a bunch of random hearts all over the card. Harry’s well I am still trying to figure out if I am completely honest!

Of course, Christmas won’t be complete without gifts. If you are having some problems with gift ideas, then try looking through the list of ideas on Oh Diers gift website. They have endless suggestions of presents for different occasions.

Here are a few we’ve made over the years: These are really easy to make and require only a few paint colours and very little effort. Handprint Christmas Card Ideas for Children:

Handprint Reindeer card

You will need:

  • A4 White Card
  • Brown Paint
  • A paper plate, plate or paint tray
  • Orange (or another colour paint)
  • Yellow paint
  • White paint (or stick on eyes/googly eyes)
  • Red paint (or red felt/red pompom)

(As you can see you are able to use whatever you have to hand really – if you’ve no red pompoms improvise and use a red pen or red paper – it really does not matter)

  •  To start – fold your white card in half (short sides at the top and bottom – fold these to meet each other)
  • Next, cover your right hand in brown paint and print to the middle left of the card.
  • Turn the card upside down and repeat so the handprints meet in the middle (the second print will be upside down to the first)
  • Using an index finger, paint a line of orange (or a colour of your choice) between these handprints – this will be the collar of your Reindeer.
  • Making sure the card is the correct way round add a Yellow fingerprint to the bottom of the collar.
  • Add a Red nose and an eye and you are finished.

Handprint Robin Christmas Card

What you need:

  • Red Paint
  • Brown Paint
  • White Paper
  • Card – any colour (we used Red)
  • Googly eyes
  • Yellow paper
  • Glue
  • Black pen
  • Scissors
  • Paint brush
How to make:
  • To start – fold your card in half
  • Next, cover the palm of your child’s hand with red paint and cover the thumb and fingers with brown paint
  • Print the handprint onto your card and allow to dry – if you have printed onto a separate piece of paper or card, cut out your handprint
  • Once dry add a googly eye to your Robin
  • Cut a triangle of yellow card to make a beak and stick to the card
  • Lastly, draw on feet

Hand and Foot Print Reindeer

What you need:

  • Brown Paint
  • Yellow Paint
  • Glue
  • Card – white and another colour
  • Red PomPom
  • Googly eyes or stickers

How to make:

This one is slightly messier as it requires a footprint for your picture, make sure you have a bowl of water to hand and you cover the floor area too.

  • Cover your child’s foot with brown paint and print onto card or paper – if you are making more than one card, do a few at the same time while you are already messy. Leave to dry
  • While this is drying, cover your child’s palms with yellow paint and print onto paper. You will need a left and a right hand. Allow to dry
  • Once dry, cut out the footprint and the handprints and glue onto your card with the heel of the footprint towards the bottom of the card and the handprints covering the toes to make your reindeer antlers
  • Add a nose with either red paint, a pom pom, sticker or whatever you have to hand
  • Lastly, add eyes to your card

Handprint Christmas Tree

What you will need:

  • White card
  • Green paint
  • Felt pens
  • Glitter
  • Yellow sticker

This is a very quick and easy one which you can make as elaborate or simple as you like

How to make:

  • Fold your card in half
  • Paint your child’s palm green and print onto the card, allow to dry
  • Once dry add a yellow star to the top of the tree – you can have palm print either way up
  • Add decorations to the tree – glitter, baubles etc
