With the cost of living rising, many families across the UK are looking for ways they can cut costs and save money. Saving money isn’t always easy, but here are some simple tips that you can start implementing into your routine, to help your money go just that little bit further.

Make a family budget

It is really difficult to save money when you do not know how much income you are receiving, and how this is currently being spent. Creating a budget can help show you where you are spending the most money, which can provide direction and guidance to help cut down your costs. Make sure that you still allocate a budget for the fun stuff – as although saving is important you should never have to miss out on all the good things in life, a healthy balance is essential.

Cut back on subscriptions

Take a look at all the subscription services that you currently have, and try to limit how many you are subscribed to.  For example, if you don’t regularly watch tv then it may be a good idea to cancel that Netflix subscription that you don’t use, as all of your spending can add up.

Buy second-hand

Buying second-hand clothes for the family can help not only your wallet but also the environment too. With the growing popularity of second-hand clothing websites such as Depop and Vinted, it is often easy to snap up a good bargain from all of your favourite brands.

Cut down food costs

There are a few different ways in which you can reduce your food bill, this can include buying less fresh produce and opting for frozen options, this can also help to reduce food wastage and is usually significantly cheaper. Buying supermarkets’ own brands instead of branded items can also make a big impact in reducing your bill, from washing up liquid to pasta sauce – and we promise you probably won’t even taste the difference! Recycling charity WRAP found that almost three-quarters of what we throw in the waste is in fact edible, and if you are wanting to save money on your household bill it is important to start making use of every item you have.

Find good deals

This could include anything from making use of promo codes, finding loyalty discounts or just spending some time shopping in the sale, there are plenty of good deals out there waiting to be found. You can also find greats on transport, from car lease deals to cheap plane tickets. Keep an eye out and prior to purchasing any item, always do some research to make sure you are paying the best price.
