5 places in your home you should definitely be cleaning!

Posted on March 19, 2020March 19, 2020

A quick dust here, a quick wipe there – cleaning isn’t something most of us enjoy but once we’ve got it done we all get to enjoy the results and the sense of achievement that comes with it. You’re probably used to vacuuming the carpet, wiping down the kitchen counters and dusting the shelves, but are you really cleaning everywhere you should be?

When we fail to clean our homes thoroughly, we run the risk of increasing our chances of contracting illnesses, and not only that, but we’re actively encouraging bacteria to multiply! Luckily, the answer is simple – we just need to pay close attention to all areas of our homes where bacteria can thrive and take the steps necessary to keep everyone in the house, healthy.

Read on for 5 places in your home you should definitely be cleaning!

Your A/C unit

When your air conditioning unit is cleaned regularly, it means that it’s working efficiently and you’re less likely to need emergency AC repair. The amount of dust and debris that builds in the filter of your AC unit will probably shock and disgust you! Not only are you potentially breathing in dirty, debris-laden air, but your unit will be working much harder to do its job and therefore it will be under more stress to perform.

Your toothbrush holder

Brushing your teeth three times a day is the best way to look after your teeth and gums. However, you might not be aware of all the germs that are lurking in the bottom of your toothbrush holder. Consider all the runoff from your mouth, water and toothpaste that your toothbrush will be sitting in! Make sure your holder is cleaned with hot water and soap every couple of days to keep those germs at bay.

Light switches, handles and bannisters

Think of all the times we sneeze, cough into our hands, touch something unsanitary or use the toilet and then we touch light switches, handles and the bannisters at home. These areas are teeming with bacteria so you must keep the spread at bay and wipe them clean with an antibacterial wipe every couple of days.

Your remote controls

From games console controllers to all those extra remotes for smart devices, the TV and even your radio. Remote controls are touched frequently and as we touch our faces hundreds of times a day, put our hand in our mouths to eat and then reach for these remotes, it’s no wonder they’re full of bacteria.

Behind the toilet

It’s all very well and good, cleaning the loo and the floor around it. But when was the last time you cleaned behind your toilet? It’s difficult to reach which makes it easy to neglect and forget about. However, the area behind your toilet is the perfect place for germs to increase and multiply. Which in turn makes spreading them around even easier. Make sure you’re using a stiff brush, hot water and bleach to get into all those hard to reach areas.
