Dogs are fun to play with and known to be the best companion to humans for over 18000 years. They are loving, caring, and so much fun to have around your kids. They can brighten up your home, cause you to bond more and offer security even when you are away. But dogs are hard work too. You have to feed, clean them and at the same time make sure they are healthy, eating the right foods and getting their emotional needs met. However, with all the expenses that come with owning a furry friend, it’s still worthwhile to have one. Why?
They Make You Happier
Dogs can tremendously improve your mood and help you relax better. An hour or a few minutes playing with your pet friend can promote dopamine release from your brain, which leaves you happier, more relaxed and peaceful.
Whatever breed you choose, even owning a teddy bear dog can improve your life. You’ll feel less lonely, sad and stressed if you take enough time every day to play and bond.
You Heal Faster
There is something about having a caring and trusted friend around you who shows concern and empathy, even when they don’t talk. Your pet will be around to cuddle with, keep you company and even protect you when you feel sick. Studies show that sick people who have dogs recover faster than those who don’t have. It might be from all the cuddling, attention and unconditional love you get from the dog that encourages you to get better.
You Tend to Be More Caring and Friendlier
It’s not just a dog that inherits your traits but being around a loving and caring friend makes you more sociable, friendlier and caring. All through the dog’s life, you are forced to think about someone else’ comfort other than yourself. Every decision you make considers the dog, and you can’t just go away for days without ensuring he will be okay with all the suitable arrangements in place.
As you become less self-centred, you treat people more generously and are more considerate of their feelings, which makes you more approachable.
You Live a Healthier Life
You are more likely to go out for a walk if you have a dog than when you don’t have one. Dogs live an active life and may demand the same from you. They want to play with you and the kids in your backyard and occasionally go for a walk. You’ll benefit from all the activity as you will be more physically fit, happier and less stressed.
Dogs Can Save Your Life
People going through depression, anxiety, and life-threatening conditions such as diabetes can benefit from owning a furry friend. Dogs and especially the trained ones have a high sense of smell and can sense when hormonal levels are down, which happens when sugar levels change. They can warn you when you are about to get an attack forcing you to take action.
The dogs can also wake you up when there are burglars or intruders. Guide dogs are also excellent for those with visual impairments or other physical challenges. Therefore, if you’ve always wanted a friend who’ll stick closer than a blood relative, get yourself a dog.
