8 Kitchen Decor Mistakes First Time Homeowners Make

Posted on January 11, 2019January 11, 2019

A kitchen is the most functional part of your home. Often it is called the heart of the home. It is one place meals are planned, prepared, served and savoured. If you are planning your first ever home, never undervalue the role of the kitchen. An improperly designed kitchen will not look inviting or user-friendly. So the dishes might lack the taste factor. A nice kitchen décor can transform the routine task of cooking into an awesome culinary experience. Ignoring kitchen design simply suggests ignoring health in the long term. Have a look at 8 most common kitchen décor mistakes, that first-time homeowners make.

1. Opting for too many closed cabinets
Homeowners often do the common mistake of having too many kitchen cabinets. Having closet cabinetry throughout lends repeating linearity to a kitchen. Such a scheme seems boring and impedes creativity. Instead of closed cabinets or drawers, you can plan a few open shelves too. Open shelving helps to portray glossy steel utensils or elegant crockery. The observer feels delighted with the picturesque sight. In addition, you will find it easy to find an item and place back in its initial place, after usage. You will spend less time finding the basic ingredients and cooking tools.

2. Ignoring the value of the personal touch
Homeowners often love to flaunt their kitchen beauty. But, a kitchen is most valuable for the residents, and even more for the user. Remember that kitchen décor should add functionality apart from aesthetics. If you put in alluring decorative stuff, visitors may love it. But the kitchen might lack a personal touch. Try to incorporate a design idea that represents your personality to the observer. For instance, if you are an art lover, you can ornament your kitchen interiors with elegant artefacts. If you love colours, you can introduce colourful accents. With interior landscaping design, you can create a space with a distinctive character. You can interact with a landscape designer for ordering customized landscaping solutions.

You can have pretty flowers on the window sills. You can select most realistic artificial plants to add touches of greenery and vibrant colours. A personalized design idea introduces positive vibes, making you feel energetic. With a personalized décor, you can concentrate more without feeling any pressure. You can also get more creative with your routine regime.

3. Differentiated design
A kitchen is the most active part of a home. Often a kitchen design is quite different from that of other rooms. Such a differentiation will make it look dissimilar and disuniting. The kitchen design must be in conformity with the overall interior landscape of the home. This helps the user feel connected to the home and residents while preparing the meals. The feeling of bonding influences the quality and taste of meals.

4. Blindly imitating statement designs
Never copy a trending design without a thought. Ensure that the design option suits your kitchen layout and indoor landscaping scheme. You must ensure if the design suffices your culinary requirements. Moroccan tiles have been in vogue these days. Many homeowners have adopted the décor style. But, often people felt later that there could be better wall design alternatives. Select the design templates carefully. Good wall design with fluid patterns will motivate the user to think freely while cooking.

5. Lack of workflow planning
However good it looks to be, a kitchen must, first of all, serve its purpose. The kitchen design must offer ease of access. Lack of workflow planning will result in impractical kitchen design. The user might feel lost in the complicated world of food items and accessories. Ensure that the cookware, sink, refrigerator and utensils are placed sufficiently close. The gap must not go beyond 3 meters. For best results, you can go for a triangular arrangement between the most functional or key kitchen items.

6. Not calculating the storage area

A kitchen may look spacious at first look. But, when you place your items there, it may look cluttered. Take active steps in the design phase itself. Make a list of your inventory first. Talk to your designer with the list and your priorities. Let him design the interior landscape with cabinetry or open shelving slots. Try to devise a solution, which is compact and stylish. Have a look at the design plan and if you can accommodate your inventory properly. Finalize the design plan, with a futuristic or long-term perspective.

7. Ignoring lighting
First-time homeowners are often so busy, that they pay little attention to lighting inside the kitchen. But sufficient light is a must-have for food quality and safety. For a large and spacious kitchen, you can have differentiated lighting to mark different zones. Lighting plays a pivotal role in indoor landscaping. Invest in lighting solutions such as spotlight task lighting for cuisine preparation. You can also have accent light with LED bulbs so that you can display your crockery nicely. Have white tones for task lighting and warm lighting tones for the dining area of your kitchen.

8. Ignoring the nooks and crannies
The smallest aspects of the kitchen can make a great difference to your cooking experience. The hurdles faced in kitchen maintenance are often overlooked. People face difficulty and boredom while arranging things in a kitchen. Invest in smart storage solutions, which make you feel active. You can try amazing options like drawer dividers and carousel cupboards. These add a new meaning to your kitchen. Such additives augment spatial utility. Organising kitchen items or accessories becomes a game. Also have used friendly faucets, so that cleaning utensils seems an effortless task. If you have added fake plantings to your kitchen interiors, invest some time for maintenance.

Conclusion
A kitchen is a special place for the delicacies and the special family discussions. People who are about to build their dream home must never ignore kitchen décor. Homeowners must not forget to add a personal touch to the kitchen. They must not ignore lighting or storage aspects. One should also pay attention to workflow planning and smallest aspects, for raising spatial utility.

This is really helpful in organizing and decorating your kitchen. A kitchen should have a good appearance and function too.
