Cleaning Hacks For Mums Who Struggle For Time

Posted on May 29, 2022October 26, 2023

**Collaborative post**

Cleaning is the type of chore you dig your heels in for as long as possible to avoid – mainly because the kids create a mess as soon as you’ve cleaned – or it’s the type of chore you love to sink your teeth into. For some people, cleaning is therapeutic and a way to switch off from the world. For others, it’s a sweaty and stressful task that seems fruitless. Still, it has to be done, so we’ve come up with some of the best cleaning hacks to save you time and keep your home fresh.

Floor Cleaning Hacks

Children and floors are a recipe for disaster – you can bet your bottom dollar that by the end of the day, there will be crumbs or potentially entire items of food, dirt, toys, and everything else in between on the floor. Some floors are easier to clean than others – engineered wood flooring, for example, is easy to clean with a steam mop at the end of the day that will collect dust and dirt, remove stains, and restores shine. Similarly to engineered wood flooring, real wood and synthetic wood floors are easy to clean in the same way.

Top tip – put a drop of Zoflora into the steam mop when cleaning engineered or synthetic floors for that extra fresh scent.

The Ultimate Fresh Washing Hacks

Fresh washing is a mum’s dream, even if the pile of clothes that builds up over the days causes washing anxiety. For the ultimate fresh washing, use a washing machine drum cleaner once a month and don’t forget to empty the water from the drain that collects underneath the washing machine. Neglecting to do so can leave clothes smelling damp and musky even when fresh out of the washing machine.

Top tip – use in-wash scent boosters to achieve the ultimate fresh washing smell and resist using the radiators to dry clothes. Or, for the ultimate fresh washing smell, even when drying on the radiator, wet cloth using your fabric conditioner and rub it over the top of the radiator. Then, wait for it to dry, put the washing on, turn the heating on, and wait for your home to start smelling like a dream.

The Dreaded Bathroom Clean Hacks

The bathroom is every mum’s worst nightmare – depending on how old your kids are, bath time tends to create a mess as no other does. For bathrooms that have seen better days, a homemade cleaning solution is your top bathroom cleaning tip of the day. Mix some antibacterial cleaning solution with warm water and add some baking soda. Not only will this leave your bathroom squeaky clean, but it’ll also help remove stubborn stains and even mould.

Top organising hack for mums with young children who love to play with bathroom toys: invest in a set of drawers for your bathroom to hide away toiletries and toys. That provides the illusion that your bathroom isn’t full of multiple shampoos, body washes, bath toys, and bubble baths.

Cleaning is an unavoidable task that becomes even more unavoidable once you become a mum. Even with all the cleaning hacks in the world, it’s a daily task that mums are condemned to so the home stays tidy and fresh. Finding a routine, great products, and new cleaning hacks can make the process easier.
