The changing seasons can spark inspiration anew each time they set in. For instance, when spring rolls around, you may feel the need to decorate your home with floral themes to match the mood. Meanwhile, during winter, you’d certainly want to create a cosy atmosphere in your home and arrange your decorations to evoke a feeling of warmth.
That being said, it may seem like a tedious task to change your home decorations every new season. So, to make things a little easier, here are some tips you can keep in mind:
Blooming Spring
When you hear of spring, the foremost image that comes to mind is probably that of blooming flowers. After winter’s white expanse of snow, spring heralds the resurgence of colours as everything blooms to life again. However, spring colours have a gentler quality compared to the brighter hues in summer and autumn. As such, your spring home decor should be anchored towards pastel hues to evoke the same happy yet gentle feeling that spring brings.
For some simple spring decorating ideas, consider changing your curtains and cushion covers to light orange, green, purple, or yellow shades. You can also switch to using breezy, lightweight fabrics, replacing the warmer, thicker ones that were used during winter. As for flowers, you can bring in fresh ones to put in vases or find floral or nature-themed art prints to adorn your walls. You may also hang spring garlands or a wreath on your front door to complete the overall spring look of your home.
Energetic Summer
The pastel colours of spring eventually shift to more vibrant ones come summer, which evokes the image of a bright sunny day. Flowers can still work well as a summer theme, but you can opt for brighter, bigger blooms like sunflowers or marigolds to match this energetic season. The image of sandy beaches and blue seas are another staple of summer, which provides a great contrast to the bright summer yellows. Adding a picture of your family’s last beach trip displayed in an acrylic photo frame on your wall can easily bring that same refreshing view to your home.
Another easy way to decorate your home for summer is by adding greens. Bring in more houseplants to create a breezy atmosphere. You may also add a tropical fruit bowl on your dining table for more colour. In addition, try to include decorations that evoke the image of the sea such as a blue rug, seashell chimes, or art prints featuring nautical themes to add to the summer feel in your home.
Calming Autumn
The season of autumn is associated with the image of leaves turning orange, bountiful harvests, and warm tones. As such, this would be the time to ease your bright summery colours into more subdued yet still striking shades of brown, red, and orange. Swap your vibrant flowers and greenery for plants or accessories in shades of orange or red. Using pumpkin decors is also an easy way to switch the indoor mood into autumn because the colour corresponds to the season and at the same time evokes the image of a great harvest. With Halloween being celebrated in autumn, your pumpkin decors can also double as Halloween decorations with just a few touch-ups.
Consider adding wood furniture and decorative accents in your home as well to provide a nice contrast against all the reds and oranges. You’ll want to create a warm and calming atmosphere for your home during autumn, so try to add more cushions and plush rugs in your living area for added comfort. Scented candles are another great way to instantly create an autumn mood. Your best picks here include pumpkin spice, apple, caramel, or other autumn-themed scents.
Cosy Winter
Eventually, the climate grows colder and, before you know it, winter is upon you again. Transitioning your home decor from autumn to winter may prove to be easier, as you’d still want to maintain the same cosy mood to keep you warm well into the colder months ahead. Have wool blankets around for family members to quickly warm up after being outdoors. Then, add soft, warm lighting around your home to create a snug atmosphere as well. If you can, swap some of the warm-toned cushions or rugs with white or blue ones for a touch of winter hues.
Another thing to consider during winter is the holiday season. Despite the harsh cold, you can still give your home a jovial white Christmas mood by hanging festive lights and other holiday decorations. If your home has a fireplace, you can then spruce it up as well by adding garlands. Reds and greens are going to be your best friends here, so try to maximise the use of these colours to capture that holiday mood. You may also use silver or gold accents to highlight the festive mood.
Decorating your home to match every season allows you to better appreciate the passage of time. Let the ideas in this article make that task much easier for you, allowing you to focus on enjoying each season with your family and loved ones.
