When you stop and really think about it, isn’t it downright interesting what insurance companies will and won’t pay for? And just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, things can change in the drop of a hat. But when it comes to finding and keeping balance during this difficult time, mental health therapy shouldn’t have to be put on hold.
During times of uncertainty, it’s important to not give up on staying in touch and community with someone who can help with your mental health. The good news is that while it’s getting increasingly difficult to go to places and leave the house, you can easily pick up the phone and contact a phone counsellor that can be able to assist.
But that doesn’t take away from the lingering question that tends to be on everyone’s mind…How can you pay for mental health therapy when funds or financial support may not be happening quite like they used to?
Finding Ways to Pay for Mental Health Therapy
Worrying about getting the counselling services that you need and wondering if you’ll be able to pay is stressful but there are things that you can do and check to see if you can get financial help.
Talk to your insurance company to see what is covered
The first thing you need to do is call up your insurance company to see if they cover the costs occurred from mental health therapy. If they do, that’s great! Make certain to also ask the follow-up questions about copays and deductibles and also if there is a limit on the number of sessions that they’ll pay for.
See if there are payment plans for your sessions
Even if your insurance doesn’t cover your appointments, don’t give up on finding ways to pay. Talk to your counsellor about options for making payments on your sessions and see if there is something that you can set up to help with it. You might be surprised to find out that they offer payment plans that can help to ease some of the costs over time.
Find locations that offer a sliding scale
You can also ask certain locations if they offer a sliding scale for their services as well. This is often determined by your income but can be a big percentage of savings when it boils down to having to pay the final bill. And while some places will advertise this, others you might just have to ask. Check out see if there are different package options that they offer as well or maybe paying in full could be another way to get an overall discount on your bill.
When it comes to finding ways to pay for your mental health counselling, don’t let a few simple barriers stand in your way. Take the time to research all your options and then make the choice that worst best financially for you.
If you can get your payments low enough or affordable enough to allow you to continue, this is the outcome that you’re hoping for!
