**Collaborative post**

So, you’re turning the big 4-0, or maybe you’ve been in the club for a while. Either way, hats off to you, queen! Now, let’s have a heart-to-heart about why it’s super important to keep an eye on your health during this chapter of life.

Your 40’s: More than Just Hot Flushes and Mood Swings

First up, hormones! As we waltz into our 40’s, perimenopause and menopause, start getting comfy. These changes are like roller coasters, full of ups, downs, and unexpected turns – hello, hot flashes, unpredictable moods, and that annoying insomnia. But it’s not all about these symptoms. Lower estrogen levels can also make us more likely to get heart disease, osteoporosis, and other serious health issues. So, keep those doctor’s appointments and health checks regular, ladies!

Surprise! New Health Risks Looming

Age might be a number, but unfortunately, it can also mean a higher chance of developing diseases like breast cancer, heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. That’s why it’s essential not to let those regular check-ups slide. Prevention and early detection are your best allies here!

Taking Charge

Now, for some good news. Modern health services like Echelon Health can give us a leg up. They offer top-notch health assessments using the latest tech to spot diseases before they show any symptoms. That means we can tackle them head-on early on. Score one for the team: “Fab over 40!”

Your Body, Your Temple: Diet and Exercise

In our 40s, our bodies need a little more love. So, girl, eat well and move more! A healthy diet with plenty of calcium, Vitamin D, lean proteins, fruits, and veggies can keep you energized and feeling fabulous. Regular workouts aren’t just good for the gram; they’re also great for your bone density, sleep, and mental health.

Be Your Health Advocate

Hey, it’s not easy, right? With life’s constant hustle and bustle, it’s easy to put our health on the back burner. But, girlfriend, let me tell you, there’s nothing more important than putting YOU first. So, be your advocate! Read up on health topics, ask questions during your doctor visits (and yes, it’s okay to bring a list!), and don’t shy away from getting a second opinion if something doesn’t feel right. You know your body better than anyone and deserve the best care possible.  That includes learning about approved treatments tailored for women like Addyi FDA, the first medication approved by the FDA to treat low sexual desire (HSDD) in women. Understanding your options is a powerful part of owning your health journey.

Headspace, Heart Space: Mental Health and Social Life

Last but certainly not least, let’s talk about mental health and social life. Whether it’s the empty nest kicking in or just the general “ageing blues,” staying connected to others and yourself is crucial. Try group activities, a little meditation, or even seek professional mental health support if needed. You’re not alone in this journey! So, as you navigate this fantastic rollercoaster ride of being 40 and fabulous, ensure your health is at the top of your priority list.

So, to wrap things up, hitting the significant 4-0 isn’t a curse, it’s a blessing! It comes with challenges, but you’re up to the task. Remember to get regular health checks, take advantage of services like Echelon Health, keep a balanced diet and active lifestyle, and nurture your mental health. Because, darling, you’re not just over 40 – you’re over-the-top fabulous!

Clare

Hi, I'm Clare (Emmy's Mummy). A former Nanny and Mother of 2 - Emmy (born February 2010) and Harry (born October 2012). We are Essex based and share our adventures and misadventures of a busy crazy life.

About Me

Hi, I’m Clare – Mum to Emmy and Harry, ex-nanny and the writer behind Emmy’s Mummy. Based in Essex, I share honest tales of family life, parenting teens, top tips from a former nanny and our love of adventures, food, and UK staycations. We’re always up for exploring – whether it’s a trip into London, a caravan break, or just getting outdoors with a picnic. This blog blends my nannying experience with the everyday chaos of raising tweens and teens. Thanks for joining us!
